Re: LinuxMint 19.1 Tessa Xfce User Manual

(i recently added XFCE DE to my mess, I'm new to Linux, but reckless, if not confident about being reckless;)... other...

Re: Freezes A Hint Not to Use MATE?

was going to respond to this earlier, 2GB ram may be issue for live session and adding other "resource hogs" like web browser to the mix because in live session it all gets loaded into RAM. What I was puzzling was your mention of a steady clicking sound. which sounded like Click of Death stuff (fail...

Re: linuxmint is performing slow

hi manishmeshram51, Your hardware looks good for upgrade to LM19 Mate, I would seek out bios firmware upgrade from Vaio though. I also forgot to see what harddrive space(s) you have available in initial command run. Please run this command in terminal: sudo blkid and copy that result then paste back...

Re: Brave browser ≠ Privacy. big big sigh... (also in the news: IceCat rocks;)

Qtox then on, I'm yet to learn that. phd21 has made installing qTox simple as run a script (I've built it a few times using this script with one mod, changed make install to checkinstall which is largely unnecessary as phd21 did an excellent job ensuring dependencies are covered and build wor...

Re: Very Slow Boot

hi War Horse, yah, your userspace loading is very slow, may be hardware related, but we still need a good report to help determine that. Please open terminal and copy then paste this command and hit enter (no need for sudo apt for any commands this thread) inxi -Fxzd (note the upper case F if you op...

Re: linuxmint is performing slow

Here are my questions : 1. If I increase the total space allocated to the Linux.. will it boost the performance? 2. How to boost the performance? 3. Should I update to linuxmint 19 mate hi manishmeshram51! 1. Adding drive allocated space to partitions is fairly simple from live session, but there a...

hi War Horse! (cool nick, I was a WarDog, long long ago;) 2GB RAM is minimal, and may cause issue depending on what you run. To help forums help you please open terminal and paste this command then hit enter: inxi -Fxz && systemd-analyze blame (hit q in terminal focus to end/exit last part of that c...

Re: Turn off wireless at start

hi Joel, Not sure what DE you run, but in Mate left click Network Manager (NM) in systray and untick Enable Wi-Fi. I'm in Mate right now, but iirc- in Cinnamon left click NM select Network connections and toggle Wifi on/off there. If XFCE then will be similar, if KDE I just don't know... ( inx...

Re: I dread what is comming

Now I dread when what is coming - after running Mint with no issues for a few years on basically a door stop he is going to run into all the Windows headaches and start calling me for help. I will be as understanding as I can and not be off putting but he will have to understand that if he wants my...

Re: Force Vivaldi Browser to Always Open Incognito

You're welcome Iggy64! I'm glad I checked in on this thread as I learned plenty too, have a decent and locked down chromium engine to run, and now have 3 DE's to log into for this laptop, which might help me help others better by log in and see what they see (or make it more confused as I have 3 DE ...

Re: Force Vivaldi Browser to Always Open Incognito

If I were to guess it is all based on /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop (which using ~/.local/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop would over-ride (by design) and would keep the file from being over-written on vivaldi upgrades. This may not be the case if you have created a thunar ...

Re: Force Vivaldi Browser to Always Open Incognito

hi Iggy64, thanks for confirm DE, and for hanging in there. We will get this sorted (no BFR required, which I often resort to by now  It can be done simple with Firefox in settings, vivaldi needs external guidance and I can only imagine that vivaldi knows this, hence the XFCE helper directo...

hi Iggy64, at this point I feel conflicts are creeping in and taking over to open vivaldi as normal. hi Mintymandy34! BLUF (bottom line up front:) I'm a disheveled mess of lessons learned since early-mid90s when it comes to considering security and privacy in the computing world. Trust nothing, question everything, also stay curious, open, and genuinely observe and listen. After that, ima mashup of...
