Re: Chase Bank Login Using Linux

I must be lucky. I'm using Mint 20.1 beta and Firefox 84.0.1 (64-bit). I can log in to Chase without a User Agent Switcher. Occasionally get the Captcha challenge, but after getting through the inconvenience of that, my login goes well. Probably jinxed myself.

Re: Firefox: server not found

So sorry. When you launch the Network app, in the connection window, for each connection, there is an icon that looks like a gear. Click on that and you will be able to edit the IPv4 properties.

Re: Firefox: server not found

That used to happen to me, but in my Networking app, I right clicked on the connection. then clicked of the IP4 settings where I could then assign static IP, and manually add the DNS servers. Alternatively, if you feel confident enough, you can edit the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections to do t...

Re: Clam Anti Virus Settings

Although linuc viruses are rare, read this article: https://www.unixmen.com/meet-linux-viruses/ A decade or so ago, I was the email administrator for a small, local ISP. It was running FreeBSD with linux binary compatibility. It was struck by a virust that hid all programs and directories. Since ema...

Re: From Dual OS to Single OS

In my opinion the easiest method would be this: Download Linux Mint from the www.linuxmint.com page Right click on the iso image and choose Open with Disk Image Writer Depending on your motherboard, there is a keystroke that allows you to choose what to boot. I have a Hewlitt Packard Laptop and Desk...

Re: Skype will not load in Mint 20

Have you tried using the Software Manager to install? Skype is listed, I didn't install it because I don't have enough occasions to use it.

While this link is mainly about tips for using Linux with an SSD, at the end of the page is a link dedicated to speeding up Linux. As always, YMMV.

Re: My Linux based system is as slow as Windows 10

Cinnamon, while spiffy and good lookin', takes a lot of resources. Recommendations for XFCE or MATE are worth a good look. If you decide to do any hardware upgrade, I would recommend using an SSD for your hard disk. I'll look around, but there have been some very helpful articles relating to making ...

Re: turn off screen with a command

sleep 1 && xset dpms force standby Then hit enter or CR or whatever to get the screen back. In your $HOME/,bashrc file you could add a line like alias monoff='sleep 1 && xset dpms force standby' then just run monoff , or whatever you called it. Sweet, Fiemur. Thanks for the post!

Re: Installing SSD & Mint by removing one HDD

If you have the service manual, follow the instructions to remove the drive. That way you can see if there is a provision to use SSD. When I looked through the manual, at the drawing of the internal drive bay, it looked like it was for an SSD. Good luck. There are basically 2 ideas I have. 1. Boot f...

Mintbox2 login

Small problem. Recently purchased a new-in-box Mintbox2 on ebay. I immediately swapped the existing hard drive with a 1T SSD. Today, I thought I'd give the original hard drive a spin, but I am unable to login to Mint. I have tried the username 'mint' with the password 'mint'. Tried 'mint/toor', and ...

Re: Linux Mint was like a dream made true until I tried SSH

So why would you insert a space where none was given? You will by the way of course have to install said server on the machine which is to be accessed over SSH. Like Rene said, the package name is openssh-server, not open ssh-server. You could also install it using the Software Manager. Search for ...

Re: Warpinator woes [SOLVED]

Thanks for the reply! That did it. While Warpenator has its place, and will work for simple 1 way file transfers, I prefer to use the file browser, which has a 'connect to server' option using a variety of ways to do so. Connecting via ssh works well, and it's easy to exchange files between my lapto...

Warpinator woes [SOLVED]

Have Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon installed on both my desktop and my laptop. I'm having a problem with Warpinator. When the program is launched on either machine, I can see the remote machine. When I attempt a file transfer, however, nothing happens except a message in the Warpinator window saying "...

Re: Just installed 5.7.0-050700-lowlatency

True, the advanced options in grub allow you to boot to a previous kernel. My grub screen never appears when booting. Probably because I have dedicated my enitire 1 TB boot drive to LM. At any rate, it's nice to hear from someone else using this kernel. Glad it's working out for you, too. My CPU is ...

[SOLVED] Interesting problem with Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1 TB

I have decided to close the question or mark it solved. Nothing I have done has worked, nor have any of the suggestions. Review of problem. I decided to upgrade the SSD in a Hewlitt Packard Probook 670B from 256G to a 1 TB drive by the same manufacturer, Samsung. After receiving the 860B drive, I in...

Sadly, I have Win10 installed and dual boot. If restart is selected when leaving Win10, there is no problem.
Is Win10 Fast Startup disabled?
