Looking for WebRTC HOW-TO

Well, I have some bacterial or viral infection that, in addition to making my voice sound like a foghorn, is really messing with my ability to think. I am trying to figure out how to get WebRTC working on Linux Mint 19.1. with Google Chrome Version 73.0.3683.103 (Official Build) (64-bit). I have sea...

Re: dazed and confused

of course, I can't find the edit tool when I need it. In the original message, it looks like I mistyped the path. That was just a finger fumble. I had a stroke a few years ago that destroyed some of the pathways from my brain to my fingers. Not asking for sympathy, just trying to explain what happen...

dazed and confused

Hi, Having a bit of perplexion here. I reinstalled Mint 19.1 Cinnamon and now, no matter what, I cannot get the powersave to turn off. I have edited the /etc/Network-Manager/conf.d/default/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf to read as follows: [connection] # Values are 0 (use default), 1 (ignore/don't t...

Re: "Refresh" Linux Mint while keeping work files?

here is what I have done in similar circumstances. 1. purchase 2 USB memory sticks. 2. Copy the folders that have important documents to one of these USB sticks, or to a backup drive if you have that. 3. Download the image file for the version of Linux Mint that you wish to install. Using Disk Image...

Mint 19.1 cinnamon screensaver stuff

Ok, I just upgraded my Mint 19 to 19.1. The upgrade went smoothly, and I experienced no major issues. In the upgrade instructions, it said that the xscreensaver stuff no longer works with the cinnamon screensaver, so I followed the instructions to remove the xscreensaver, and the screeensavers that ...

Re: Timeshift won't use zfs_member - how to change?

you might try gparted, a GUI partition tool. i have had the occasional issue with gparted not working, and have downloaded the iso image of Hiren's Boot Disk, which contains gparted. Using Hiren's, I boot the CD, then navigate through the menus to get to gparted, and launch it. For me, it seems to w...

Thanks,

Can the printer settings icon (located in system settings) [SOLVED] be placed on the Cinnamon Desktop?

Subject says it all. I would like to be able to access the printer settings without having to open the system settings. I have tried dragging it, CTRL-dragging, ALT-dragging. Pressing the right mouse button to drag, and anything else I could think of doing. I even emptied the cat's litter box (cat b...

Re: looking for a plug and play webcam

I made the classic mistake of buying a cheap POS on ebay. Works in Windows, but not in Mint. I did some more searching and have a Logitech C270 coming. This one has had some good reviews here on the forums. If it works when it gets here, I'll mark the topic solved.

Thanks for everything.

I actually searched the forums and couldn't find a definitive answer. So, I'm looking for a usb webcam that will just work with LM 19.

Thanks in advance.

Solved: Purchased a Logitech C270. Plugged it in and it works!

Forgot to add the result of lsusb:

lsusb

So it looks like the device is there. It actually shows up in the Computer icon as Samsung Android, but no files appear.

trying to mount samsung galaxy tab a

Recently got a Samsung Galaxy tab a 10.1 tablet. It works well and is really nice. I've been trying to use the file manager app to look at it, but no success. Earlier posts said to do this: sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs but I get the error that mtp-tools c...

Re: Wireless adapter not seen in new Tara install [SOLVED]

Hi dman, I don't know what you mean by "canonical way to test the functionality of the wireless adapter". I just use the terminal command iwconfig to see the channel, dropped packets, and other information. There are a couple of apps you may wish to install via software manager, 1. "Linssid" 2.I occ...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

Further readin on the dd-wrt website indicates that Internet Exploder is the preferred btowser to use if trying to do things via the web intertface. I'm not a fan of IE, and may just try to find a Linksys EA6350 1200AC routere that is already flashed. I'm no stranger to rftp. When working for an ISP...

Re: How to fix Thunar not having option to run scripts

Thanks for this info. I was having trouble getting Pale Moon browser to install from the .sh file, and the PPA method is an out dated version. Believe me, I am not trying to sound snarky or exude an "I'm smarter than you" attitude. Learning how to use some basic shell commands is always in your own...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

First off it's not a trivial matter to flash your router with DD-WRT or Tomato or LEDE, etc etc. It's quite possible that you'll brick it. I'm sure you know this already though. I suggest reading everything that DD-WRT website tells you to read before you proceed any further. That being said. It so...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

Yes, using cat5 into ethernet port1. I tound a WRTG router pre-loaded with DD-WRT firmware and purchased it. I really dislike closed source stuff. They think they've got you held in an unbrakable grip, but there is usually a way around it. Just wish more people would support open source (and not jus...
