Re: LM 21 Live : hard disk not recognized
This is a long shot. Pehaps your BIOS is set for UEFI and your disk is formatted as "Legacy" or GPT. The easiest solution in this case and IMHO is to check the BIOS to see which is enabled. Then just switch it to the other possibility and see if that helps. Since I don't know which compute...

Re: Mint 21 on USB does not boot
I was able to install and run LM 21 on my Dell Latitide laptop. It worked, but I didn't see any compelling reason to keep it, so I re-installed 20.3 and blew away 21.0.
I personally don't see any reason to upgrade if something is working well.
YMMV

Re: Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” Cinnamon released!
Can I help it if it's a day off and there's the possibility of a new toy to play with? What's stopping you today? Just install it alongside your current deployment, and play to your heart's content. I haven't been able to get to a screen, no matter what I do. I can boot the live filesystem on my la...

Black screen when booting the Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon beta live system
I hesitate to ask for help on this forum. I usually get curt answers, narcissism and rudeness, in addition to erroneous info. At any rate I have been unable to get to the install screen of Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.0 beta. I get to the grub prompt, and choose the compatibility option, and only see a bl...

Re: New kernel 5.13 prevents wifi, but older 5.13 was ok
Hi y'all, First and foremost, do NOT follow my unintended advice. I'm one of those users who has been using Linux for a LONG time. The first distro I used was Slackware. [old fart meanderings] Back then, you had to know the vertical, horizontal and some general refresh rate. It could take a long tim...

Re: Can't get my Linux supported adapter to connect.
Dear morrownr, Thanks for the link. I have added it to my bookmarks. I am not a developer by any stretch of the imagination. I have fought with the Realtek drivers for many years. It's comforting to validate the opinion that Realtek really doesn't care about supporting any operating systems except W...

Re: Linux Mint 20.3 “Una” Cinnamon – BETA Release
A couple of questions: 1. What kernel are you using? The 5.4 kernel didn't work with the Broadcam BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n I found and installed the 5.15 kernel and had somewhat better luck, but it was intermittent. I also had a Panda Express wifi adaptor (using Realtek drivers) that worked . I eventu...

Re: Linux Mint 20.3 “Una” Cinnamon – BETA Release
I downloaded and installed the BETA. Like every Mint install I have done, it works seamlessly. The only problem I had was that the kernel did not support my Broadcom WiFi card. Luckily, I have several WiFi adapters, so I was able to swap it out with a something else. The Broadcom WiFi seems to occup...

Re: [] Solaris/virtualbox Why can't I clear this error?
On my laptop, the option to turn virtualization on/off is located in the BIOS.
Don't know if that would get true or not for you. Just a suggestion

Hi,
I haven't been following the discussion, so take this with a huge grain of salt.

Re: Internet won't work despite being "connected"
My recommendation is to fix it on your machine. There are at least 2 ways to do this; one is very easy and the other is easy also, but depends on your comfort editing a file. At this point, let's try the 2nd method. 1 open a terminal window and become root with the 'sudo su' command 2. then type 'xe...

Re: Internet won't work despite being "connected"
I may be jumping the gun here, but have your tried using the ping command to ping the site's IP address instead of pinging FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name). For instance, I happen to have the IP address for kadaza.com. It is 45.79.79.74 So you use the bash terminal and type 'ping 45.79.79.74' with...

Latest Firefox update seems to have broken some things
Updated today and firefox was updated to 91.0.2 (64-bit). Since then, Netflix has stopped working, and there aren't any solutions listed on the Mozilla site. Not a big issue for me, as I'm pretty sure the firefox folks will get inundated with complaints and eventually fix the issue. In the meantime,...

Re: LM20.1 HP Printer Envy 4500 not installed
I have the Envy 5420 printer. It was always discovered by the wireless network when installing Mint since I started using Mint (6 or more years ago). If you want your printer to have a dedicated and recurring IP address, you may need to configure your wireless router and/or the Envy via the printer'...

Re: Grub doesn't load
Welcome to the wonderful world of pompous indignation. This is one of the reasons I no longer ask for assistance on this forum. I got tired of being treated like a intellectually challenged flatworm. Many people forget what it was like when they first learned to use a Unix like OS. Grub does this so...

Re: Login loop and error showing up problem
I got stuck in a login loop some time ago. Due to my 'chronologically gifted' status, I can't remember how I was finally able to get to the Cinnamon desktop. I think that I had to hold the [DELETE] key while booting, and that got me to the desktop. Further research stated that this problem is more l...
