Re: [Solved, kind of] Remote Desktop on Mint 19

Thanks *so* much ralplpcr for the solution you gave! I'm *finally* set up up in Remmina. Several things to note (from my newbie perspective) that may help others. The syntax to install x11vnc was 'sudo apt-get -y install x11vnc' -- I kept *on* erroneously entering XllVNC (the letter 'L' instead of t...

Re: Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

Thanks Joss, hcentaur13, and Dot_mdb! Joss -- I will go with 24 inch monitor -- don't want to suffer dizzy spells from looking at a giant screen! :) hcentaur13 -- I too enjoy using virtual desktops / workspaces -- had four at one time but am down to 2 now. Handy to help keep your projects separated....

Re: Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

Thanks Dot_mdb -- I currently use the laptop with another monitor setup that you talk about. My add-on is the primary monitor and the laptop is on my right and angled slightly towards me. I am used to using Super+Shift+(left or right arrow) key to move the windows back and forth between the monitors...

Re: Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

Thanks to each of you who answered my question: ralplpcr srq2625 Joss CaptainKirksChair AndyMH After reading about the issues with getting it to work, and due to the fact that I have an older model laptop -- I am leaning towards going with single / large monitor. If I were using a desktop I would bu...

Question about multiple monitors vs one larger display size monitor

Hi all -- I have a question about your preference for multiple monitors vs. just *one* large monitor that's capable of displaying multiple windows. I am almost reading some PDF or Calibre e-reader document but also doing browsing and maybe text files and Libre files -- lots of stuff. :) Do any of yo...

Re: Strange Behavior of Hand/Drag Icon in Panel

Hi Seadreamer -- thanks for responding. The icon is free to move -- it just won't 'lock in' and stay in place. When you click on it after it is positioned (to bring it into focus) it becomes free to move again and the hand/drag icon reappears. In answering your reply I was having trouble re-creating...

Strange Behavior of Hand/Drag Icon in Panel

Hi -- I have noticed that when I click on a browser icon in the panel and slightly move the mouse cursor (by accident!) that the hand icon appears as if trying to move the position of the tab. I can't get it (the tab and the hand icon) unstuck -- pressing escape or double clicking -- neither works. ...

Re: [SOLVED] Question about Using Recoll

Hi All41 -- sounds good. FSearch not quite as fast as Everything -- but still very fast as you stated. I have about 640,000 files on an external drive and the update seems to take about 2 minutes or so.

Take care!

Re: [SOLVED] Question about Using Recoll

Hi Smurphos -- yes you're right. In my case, that's what I wanted -- file name search only. On the Windows side, the Everything Search Engine was so extremely fast that over the years I learned to just rely on file name search. I also learned to use longer file names to describe what the file conten...

This one? - https://github.com/cboxdoerfer/fsearch That's the one! I installed using instructions here: https://www.fossmint.com/fsearch-search-utility-for-linux/ Two lines to install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:christian-boxdoerfer/fsearch-daily sudo apt update && sudo apt install fsearch-trunk

Re: Question about Using Recoll

Hi all -- just an update on my latest findings. So far I have tried Catfish, Recoll, Angry Search, SearchMonkey, and FSearch. And the winner is . . .FSearch! It's the fastest and as the author of this says he patterned it after the Everything Search Engine (www.voidtools.com) which works only with W...

Re: Question about Using Recoll

Thanks very much RickNS, Catweazel, All41, and Smurphos for your responses. I have some work to do! Will work on these options and report back on what I found. I had been using Catfish previously for local searching and it works fine and is very speedy. I'm totally happy with it -- exactly what I wa...

[SOLVED] Question about Using Recoll

Hi all -- I've been messing around with Recoll and have enabled indexing of a NAS device. It works fine, but the problem is that the full text indexing takes forever. I'd really rather just index the file names and not the full text. And then of course I would use only the 'file name' search query. ...

Re: Is it possible to get daily summaries via email

Sdibaja -- I downloaded Feedbro and everything is working great. That's a nice app that I will use on other sites. The option to 'find rss feeds in this tab' did work very well. Thank you very much for that tip.

Re: Is it possible to get daily summaries via email

Thanks very much sdibaja -- that would work. Do you know how to find the RSS feed for the linuxmint forum? If not, I see that Feedbro has a feature 'find rss feeds in this tab' -- is that how you found the feed for linuxmint forum? I am also aware of the fact that there are other extensions that wil...

[SOLVED] Is it possible to get daily summaries via email

I would like a daily summary rather than individual emails co...
