I'm using Mint 19 64 bit, bug still here, but I can confirm the above tip did the trick. Not sure if it survives reboots or not yet.

Something has changed in one of the last few updates. I used to be able to shut off my wifi, and plug my ethernet cable into my laptop and it would automagically switch to my ethernet connection. After launching nemo from the command, specifying the ip, the file manager opened up and I can see the shares on the Windows 10 machine, and access them after entering in my Win10 username and password (which I thought I disabled the password requirement). andrew@satellite ~ $ smbclient -L 192.168.1...
