Re: Samba

altair4, your suggestion about creating a samba.service file on the pi at /etc/samba/services WORKED PERFECTLY. I am now FINALLY able to see the Pi in the File Manager under "Browse Network". By the time you will have read this, I'll have marked this as SOLVED. THANKS GREATLY FOR THE HELP & ASSISTAN...

Re: Samba

Per your direction, altair4, I removed the leading “.” from the smb.conf file that you mentioned. Now, when I’m on the Dell, once I click on Browse Network, I see the printers share folder and a folder called Dell, but no Raspberry Pi folder. On the Raspberry Pi, however, I see the printers share fo...

Re: Samba

I feel dumb for not having seen the same netbooks names. Duh on me! My error! As for the files being out of sequence, I just think it’s a best practice - for me, at least - to take what the default is and comment out anything not needed, and just add things at the bottom. I find that doing so helps ...

Re: 2 Wi-Fi Printers via USB?

AZgl1500 : Unfortunately my ISP (COX Communications) doesn't allow the use of the USB ports on the back of the router/gateway/modem; I talked to them recently about this as to why - for over 10 years - said device's (and others with the same functionality) documentation continues to say that the US...

2 Wi-Fi Printers via USB?

I have 2 HP wireless-enabled printers - a LaserJet P1102w & an OfficeJet 3830. Currently, they're connected wirelessly, but there's some problem I can't identify. I have 3 computers on my home network - a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ running the latest Raspbian OS (the full version), a Dell Dimension E521 runn...

Update Manager Red Checkmark

I've seen this error in Update Manager in my Linux Mint 19 Xfce the past few days. Any help that can be rendered to help me figure out what is going on and how to fix it is greatly welcomed! Thank you!

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, This will be my final post on this topic; I reinstalled Linux Mint 19 Xfce 64-bit edition this morning and am in the process of setting everything back up. I've already got the Wi-Fi back up and connected and am about to set the printers up. Once that is done, I'm doing a Timeshift Snapshot (...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, Honestly, with this having gone on a while now, I don’t remember how I installed the NVIDIA driver, but I remember using a Terminal command containing “purge nvidia*” to get rid of it. My GRUB loader showed 2 other kernel versions: one ended in 23 and the other ended in 20. Nothing in any ker...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

In trying to figure all this out, somehow I did something that’s messed up my ability to login to my system now. When I enter my password and hit Enter, the screen goes black for 2 seconds or so and the login screen appears again. So, I’ve got another problem now, but I hope it’s one that is more ea...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, The saga continues; I ran the first command you gave & rebooted. When I run inxi -Gx, it STILL says: drivers: vesa (unloaded: modesetting) FAILED: nouveau So the nouveau driver is STILL not loading. When I use Driver Manager, the only hardware for which a driver option appears is my Netgear U...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, OK; I tried loading the 4.15.0-20 kernel, which was the oldest one showing in the GRUB bootloader. 1280x1024 is still the maximum resolution. Here's the output from the Terminal command inxi -Gx: Graphics: Card: NVIDIA C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] bus-ID: 00:05.0 Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 ) ...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, Re. this screen resolution/nouveau thing: I really don’t know if this is in any way connected to the above, but I had to add “noapic” (& more (I think)) in the Grub boot manager thing to boot into Linux - something re. ACPI & my 2007 Dell PC not supporting it. I was home this afternoon, but n...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, I can only make two other suggestions. 1. The 4.15.0-24-generic kernel your system is using has caused problems for many other Mint users, so select an older kernel at the Grub boot menu. When you get to the desktop, remove that newer kernel in Update Manager > View > Linux kernels and reboot...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, 1. I deleted the xorg.conf file. I rebooted. 1280x1024 is still not showing; the maximum resolution shows as 1024x768. 2. blacklist nouveau does NOT show in the blacklist.conf file. 3. Thinking there might be something wrong with the nouveau driver package, I reinstalled said package using th...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, I did EXACTLY what you said; when I logged out and logged back in, the maximum resolution showed as 1024x768. This is going the wrong way! This is also getting to be VERY frustrating and I'm wondering now if I should've stuck with Windows 10 Home. Originally, I had said I wanted 1600x900, but...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

2. Did you try installing the nvidia-304.137 driver in Driver Manager and then removed it? The inxi output you posted shows the vesa driver is being used but it should be the default nouveau driver. 3. Run a live session with the Mint 19 Xfce installation USB and use these commands in the Terminal ...

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE / Acer X203H 20” VGA Monitor

roblm, You are correct in saying I failed to answer all41’s question. I did do a fresh install of Linux Mint 19 64-bit. I apologize for the oversight. I know the GeForce 6150 LE is not that good, but I’m not wanting to put any additional $ into this 2007 Dell PC; the upgrade to 4GB RAM was the last ...
