Re: VPN

I've just posted the solution to my own vpn problem here in case it's relevant to this discussion. I use SoftEther vpn and the linked solution opens a terminal with available servers to choose and connect to. Couldn't be easier. SoftEther is "An Open-Source Free Cross-platform Multi-protocol VPN Pr...

Re: [Solved]Softether VPN setup to emulate Win10

It took a while but I've finally found a way to set up SoftEther in a way that presents a list of available servers for you to choose. I'm using vpngate-with-proxy through the instructions on this site , having spent weeks trying to make these instructions work. It was as easy as installing the depe...

Re: Softether VPN setup to emulate Win10

Thanks. That's basically what I had set up with SoftEther in Windows. I need SoftEther because it's open source and, more importantly, free - I have no way of paying for a vpn.

[Solved]Softether VPN setup to emulate Win10

On win10 I had a desktop icon for SoftEther, and every time I needed a vpn I clicked on it and it opened up a list of servers in different countries I could connect through. Is it possible to set up SoftEther on Mint like this? I've been searching the forum for something that would give me the same ...

delete/uninstall second linux mint installation

Noob question, sorry, but search isn't helping. I have installed LM on a ssd drive. I have another installation I used for testing on a HD partition. I now want to get rid of that HD installation. Can I safely just delete/reformat that partition or do I need to go through an uninstalling procedure. ...

Re: Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

Thanks for all your help. ClixTrix - old nVidia driver was the problem, although I can't recall needing to change them on the HD install. But then I was like a kid in a candy store and was playing with all sorts of settings I should have taken a note of. I don't quite understand however, how the scr...

<Solved>Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

I installed LM (18.3 Sylvia) on a spare drive after moving windows to an SSD. It works perfectly. The only slight annoyance was that I couldn't get to the grub menu without hitting the 'f12' key at boot, so I decided to also install Mint on the SSD alongside windows to automatically default to the g...

Re: Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

Need to bump, sorry. I am trying to get LM settled on my ssd alongside windows 10. I already have Mint on a HD partition and it's working perfectly. On the SSD however, the screen blacks out after a few minutes use. Searching for "Black screen" just returns many references to black screen at login. ...

Re: Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

OK. Found it, thanks. Maybe we have different systems because Control Center is called System Settings on my machine and it doesn't have a "Look and Feel" section. Either way, I had already disabled the screensaver and power saving options, so that isn't the cause of the blackout. Back in to my firs...

Re: Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

Do you mean control centre in windows? How would that affect Mint? Or is there a control centre in Mint? Sorry I'm confused. In any event I disable screen saver and sleep for both systems.

Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

I installed LM (18.3 Sylvia) on a spare drive I had after moving windows to an SSD. It worked perfectly. The only very slight annoyance was that I couldn't boot to the menu screen (that lets you choose Mint) without hitting the 'f12' key at boot. I decided to also install Mint on the SSD alongside w...

Re: Change desktop wallpaper to personal photo - image file greyed out

OK. Real newby trap. I failed to add the folder containing my photo to the available sources on the left. As soon as I did that the photo became available.

<Solved>Change desktop wallpaper to personal photo - image file greyed out

I'm attempting to change the wallpaper and can easily find my image file, but it is greyed out and not selectable. The file is available to other programs like Gimp. I exported from Gimp as a jpeg file because of advice I found while searching. Is this the issue? Is there a specific file type or fol...
