Isn't it so that Asus motherboards are better performance wise.
Old wive's tale.
I agree but they are EXTREMELY reliable!

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Pjotr First you must realize that I am quite new to Linux and Mint. I have used SSD's with Windows for some time without issue. I am aware that SSD's have a limited "write" life and after switching to Mint I began searching for information regarding the OS use of the drive and ways to prevent premat...

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Pjotr .. I just edited the file, replacing * with my user name and that did not correct it. Suspend still appears on the shutdown menu. -- Larry

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

might it be necessary to specify user name, not *, following "... unix-user:*" I am assuming that * means all users names. Then why does it work on 18.3 but not 19?

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Hello Pjotr ... Thank you for the link to the V2 Cinnamon ISO. I downloaded it and installed it. Without any action "Hibernation" was not present on the shutdown screen but "Suspend" was. I went to: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/bugs#TOC-Hibernate-and-suspend-don-t-always-work-w...

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Jim ... Good information! While I probably will do the optimization suggested by Pjotr, it will not have the priority it did before today! As soon as the new ISO is released for 19 I will install it on my M.2 NVMe drive. It has my only surviving installation of Win 10  and I am anxious to see...

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Hello Pjotr ... Recognizing that you are THE author of those Google Mint pages, you are to be commended for your effort. If you were here, I'd buy you a big juicy steak dinner and a cold beer! I tried earlier to let you know that there was a problem with your narrative on SSD's and obviously failed ...

Re: Hello to All from Ohio USA

WharfRat and Jimallyn ... I am just blown away that I, a Linux Mint newbie, would receive not just one but acknowledgements from TWO Linux Mint level 18 gurus. I have been using 18.3 Cinnamon for a couple of months and jumped, with both feet, into the 19 beta release. I think I have learned my newbi...

Re: Installing Mint on SSD

Hi Jim .. wow, that was quick! Thank you! There is a guide that I have found quite good on configuring Mint to use an SSD. My compliments to the author. Here is the URL https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/ssd It explains the need for each change and then exact commands to accomplish i...

Installing Mint on SSD -- No Longer Concerned

There is help online on how to configure Mint on an SSD. In one instance it's inaccurate, giving you information about why "hibernate" and "sleep" are not good and then telling you how to stop it with procedures that don't work! UGH!! Why can't Linux Mint, during installation, detect that it's being...

Hello to All from Ohio USA

Hi, My name is Larry. I'm a recent Linux Mint convert from Windows. Discussing my issues with Windows here is much like sitting on a park bench discussing ageing issues with elderly pigeon feeders. Nothing will get accomplished. The biggest single issue is that Mint allows me to waste time on the in...
