Re: Installing current Wine on Mint 20.3
libsystemd0/focal-updates,focal-security 245.4-4ubuntu3.15 amd64 [upgradable from: 245.4-4ubuntu3.11] Right, so you should get those updates I think. I tried, but they didn't install. Then I figured out what the issue was... I followed the various tips from Pjtor's Easy Linux Tips Project, which in...

Re: Installing current Wine on Mint 20.3
Interesting, apt update says that 13 packages can be updated. I definitely did an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade before. Is apt update different than apt-get update? These packages are upgradable: libnss-systemd/focal-updates,focal-security 245.4-4ubuntu3.15 amd64 [upgradable from: 245.4-4ubuntu...

[SOLVED] Installing current Wine on Mint 20.3
Hello, I'm no longer able to install Wine from the Wine repositories (either winehq-stable or winehq-devel). I've added the repositories and the packages are found. I have followed this procedure many times in the past, but now I get this error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: system...

Re: Change Preferred Application for Calculator
Yes, In Cinnamon you have the option to pick a different app, but not in Mate. I think this setting is what controls which program comes up when you press the calculator button on the keyboard. I'm trying to change it because the default calculator doesn't use custom metacity window borders correctl...

Change Preferred Application for Calculator
Hello,
In Mate, under the Preferred Applications, I would like to change the default application for Calculator to galculator, but it does not show as an option, and there is no option to select anything else. Does anyone know where this information is stored?
Thanks,
Greg

Re: Mint 20 Mate all categories in Applications Menu are empty
I am having exactly this problem too. Clean install of Mint Mate 20 and my start menu shows the categories, but there is nothing in any of them, including "All Applications". (These groups are configured to have items, just nothing shows up.) Favorites does work, however. Any ideas?

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science
The world continues on whether or not people observe it because humans and their senses and instruments are not fundamentally different from the rest of the universe. That is an opinion, to which you are certainly entitled, but it is not a fact. And all the experimental results of quantum mechanics...

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science
I need to stop you right there. That an external reality exists is a mere assumption on your part, and nothing more. You do not have direct access to any reality other than your own internal reality. When you see something at a distance, say a tree, your brain is projecting a three-dimensional imag...

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science
His point was that conscious observers are not necessary. Besides, bacteria react to their environment, like humans do: what else does "observing" consist of? In that old cat-box thought experiment the cat, the geiger-counter, the box and the air in the box, etc, etc are all "observe...

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science
The quantum universe : everything that can happen does happen - Cox, Brian I read this one. It was decent, but, based on the title, I was expecting more discussion of the many worlds theory. But it was hardly mentioned. I'm still looking for someone knowledgable who actually believes this theory to...

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science
Nice! A thread about the interpretations of quantum mechanics. This is a subject that really interests me. I'm no physicist but I've read as much as I can without needing to get too deep into the math. Take Everett's many-worlds interpretation. Supposedly there are an almost infinite number of our s...

Re: Confused about 19.2; is it long term or beta? (off-topic part)
How can you use Tina Turner as a way to introduce Linux Mint,I sure hope she is getting paid for being used as an advertisement. for Linux Mint...19.2. Cause I can say is I will never upgrade base on Tina Turner.I will go to another Distro like Debian.....maybe you will dissapprove this post like S...

Re: So i tried zorin and pop_os
I was disappointed when System76 decided to make their own distro. Maybe more than disappointed, borderline angry. There are hundreds of distros. There are at least a dozen good ones. They couldn't use one of those? If there was something else they wanted to do, they couldn't use all the development...

I've tried both...that's why I use Linux Mint...say no more :D and the fact Canonical is partnered with Microsoft would put off anyone. http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/mad/mad0077.gif   There was a definite lack of understanding about what that relationship is in that statement. Re: I have finally stopped distro hopping!
I've bounced around some and also settled on Mint. I don't know for sure it is the best, (my testing wasn't exactly scientific), but it's certainly up there. What I like is the way the devs pay attention to the tiny details other distros don't. A couple of examples. They recently added they function...

Re: Snaps. Why? Please stop.
There is no shortage of Linux software bieng developed today. This is apparently not a sufficient detractor. That's a matter of opinion. There are plenty of things that I cannot find applications for that work as well as what is available in Windows. The downsides of moving away from a single unifi...

@jackmg: kudo's for taking the time and effort to respond. :) Indeed, thanks for responding. Since you have had good experiences with Mint in the past and are openly sharing your experiences, the user community can probably track down the cause and hopefully improve Mint for everyone. In-place upgr...

Re: Another Design Discussion: Properties and Media Files
Nemo-mediainfo-tab is indeed a nice addition. Thanks for pointing it out! It also gives resolution and compression info for photos as well. I think this should definitely be pre-installed unless there is some compelling reason not to do so. It improves Mint in an obvious way by just installing one p...
