SOLVED How to insert inxi -Fxzd & Code : Select All

Hello, Am intrigued by the way people can add their inxi -Fxzd data inside a box in the main body of the post. Have looked through the announcements hoping to find out how to do this - couldn't find it, where should I look please ? What is the significance of the "Code : Select Al" boxes and how/why...

Re: SOLVED - Scanning for Btrfs - slow Bootup - started today

Think I get it not downloaded yet means nobody had downloaded it not that it hasn't been sent from my PC to the Forum which is what I always assumed, this always puzzled me. oh yeah ..... and it was the dodgy ruined dvd that caused the bootup problem. Thx - thanks - will investigate updating the ker...

Today it took 10 minutes to boot, I rebooted three times in a row, and gave me these messages Scanning for Btrfs file systems (- this line displayed once only) [Numbers in square brackets ie 552.720805] Buffer I/O...

Aliases working Thankyou

Hey, Well done everybody ..... Aliases now working - using .bash_aliases ....... it is easier to read my simple stuff here than it is to append it to .bashrc with all the gobbledygook at the top. My favourite one is up=cd .. ....... and then I can use the up arrow to keep going up one directory at a...

Re: aliases exist but .bash_aliases doesnt exist

Thanks for the replies gents.

Thanks for your help.

Had another look and found the .bashrc in ~/ ............. must have been looking with my eyes shut the first time.

Puzzling thing is that those aliases are not in that file, will see if I can find where they are.

Off to write some aliases

aliases exist but .bash_aliases doesnt exist - SOLVED

Am getting adventurous and would like to dabble with shellscripts and aliases. Typing in alias yields the following, (I assume they were hard wired into the installation files) bill@Bill-Linux ~ $ alias alias alert='notify-send --urgency=low -i "$([ $? = 0 ] && echo terminal || echo error)" "$(histo...

Re: How to allow Cairo dock to appear on top of Cinnamon task bar?

See attached screenshots. Configure Cairo to use "3D Plane View" This lifts the icons above the bar on my screen - might get it a bit higher with offset applied. Whoops cannot post a file greater than 200KB - One out of 3 aint bad - gotta go and learn how to reduce a png file. Fixed - see attached. ...

Re: Recording Videos

Thanks for the replies. Apologies for the confusion .............. I have no specific questions .... was simply reporting on two software packages that seemed to do a good job and were easy to use. Am rounding up all of my existing language videocassettes and dvds and assessing whether or not its wo...

software - does it "bed down" & "run in"

Sounds daft I know, With mechanical stuff there is sometimes a running in or bedding down period where you run the machine gently for a while allowing things to fit together properly and get properly synchronised. Its quite strange but my Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon seems to have done just that. It doe...

Out of curiosity, what are you trying to record? Most video stuff can be dowloaded without needing to capture the screen.
It helps me to learn Italian if I can listen to the video and see the translation subtitles at the same time.

Recording Videos [SOLVED]

Hey, Didn't know where to put this. Tried various ways of capturing the monitor screen this morning. The best combination that I found was 1. Simplescreenrecorder to record the video, used the mkv format and left all other options as default, drew a rectangle to define the capture area. 2. Bombono t...

Re: Firefox struggling but Vivaldi is fine

Firefox was slow at starting and slow doing things after it had started.

Snowflakes tip worked well - its running just as fast as Vivaldi now that I set up a new profile.

Thanks for the tips

Re: Incorrect screen size

Hello,

I have had similar issues and they were fixed by installing the correct nvidia driver and then using the nvidia-settings program - see this thread
