Re: Mint 17.X, 18.X and 19 Full Disk Encryption (directory /boot included)

Thanks linux22 I did not see this reply until now. I have UEFI but never used the EFI/GPT setup. But so far I can see is the EFI System Partition un-encrypted and there is a lot of space to put something there! And me being paranoid about computer security... and not without a reason. I don't know n...

Re: Disable network on LM Live DVD/USB-stick

I have fixed my problem with a new computer where I can disable my wifi (some very good option from asus).
But still I found that it is a security risk for persons who are a target!

Re: SOLVED Feature Request: Custom Full Disk Encryption Option

Full disk encrytpion has always been a bit of sticking point with me. One the one hand, it's good to know my files are encrypted no matter which folder or volume they reside in; on the other hand, it has some definite weaknesses (even dangers) that limit its value in several situations. As you've p...

Re: SOLVED Feature Request: Custom Full Disk Encryption Option

Anyway back to encryption - here is a little story; my older brother is a retired NASA scientist (yep a rocket scientist) and a UNIX/CLI guru. He once shocked me by casually mentioning he forgot his linux password so had to use a live CD to get back in and change it. Well, that made me decide on th...

Re: NEES HELP! Unwated user accessing my laptop via WiFi

There are many ways they could come in, many times because the user does stupid things. But if you are on a publicly used network everyone can contact you directly because you are on the same network, thats why those networks are very dangerous. Those networks are many times used by hackers to sniff...

Disable network on LM Live DVD/USB-stick

I find that installing Linux Mint with internet connection a security risk. Personally I would not connect to any network/internet before the installation is finished and have setup the firewall. But when I boot from a LM Live boot disk the network manager always connect to the internet. I know that...

Re: How does the update manager verify the update sites?

I have been looking many times to find some information about that. If I search for apt-secure there is way more information to find. It would not been me, if I do not some testing to see how things work... so I restart my computer and when there was no traffic flowing in or out I did: sudo apt-get ...

How does the update manager verify the update sites?

I have been wondering about this for years, specially because most update sites are http and no https.
From the base package they are all http.

How does the update manager verify if the update sites are who they are?

Re: Reconnect after VPN Fail

Is the situation that you still have internet connection when you VPN connection is down, and because of that leak your IP and send data unencrypted over the internet? I found the best way to use a firewall that only allows traffic VPN traffic (tun+) and traffic from and to your VPN server! In that ...

Re: VPN

"If you're doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about" is one of the biggest lies ever told, but apparently some people still believe it. Privacy is important to law abiding citizens as well. What privacy. If your on the WWW there is no privacy whatsoever. Delusion is if you think a VPN i...

I have been using this setup for 2 years now, and the only thing I regret about it that I did not used it before!

Re: Boot from Linux Mint Live usb stick without network

Taking out the network cable would be a option in many cases, but I need to install a lot of computers, and the last time we did that I broke some cables. And my boss don't want that there is any network connection before the computer is installed and after a firewall! That's the reason why i want t...

Re: Boot from Linux Mint Live usb stick without network

I don't know why the installer need a internet connection (maybe for to download some updates), but when I boot the LM Live usb-stick the network manager is directly connected to the router (and with that internet). What I want is that the network manager is disabled when booting from the LM Live us...
