Re: Which one to use for Desktop Applications: Python with GTK or C++ with QT?
Speaking strictly out of user experience: QT sucks a lot! Better aim for GTK, if you're gonna make applications.

Re: clonezilla woes...
the the "new" version of clonezilla that I was using was not backward compatible with previous version created images Sounds like a bug in the specific version. I started using clonezilla in 2013, I don't even remember what version it was back then. Now I'm using 3.0.3. Between these vers...

Re: clonezilla woes...
clonezilla is hard coded to allow you to restore ONLY to the partition from which it was originally cloned. No, it's not. I've been using clonezilla for years, never had a problem to restore to a different partition. The only possible limitation, which is easily avoidable, is if the target partitio...

i am on verge of returning to windows i cant take any more reinstallations I was exactly like you 9 years ago - on the verge of kicking linux in the [donkey synonym] and returning to Windows and my case was a lot worse than yours because nobody here on this forum, nor linux gurus were able to help ...

Re: Bug ntfs partishions become courpted when not ejcted
Linux does not immediately apply the file operation, it waits. It's not just that. It also depends on the drive's read & write speeds which can be greatly decreased bc of the ancient and never updated NT filesystem. I've seen it (not on my computer) how the write speed drops down to 68 KB/s on ...

Re: I can't access keyboard settings
Change the interface language of LM to English, make the necessary settings and then return the Bulgarian interface again. Done! I found an easier workaround, altough I'm surprised of this problem bc it used to work just fine until recently. I wonder what will happen if I extract the bg.mo file fro...

I can't access keyboard settings
When I attempt to open the keyboard settings where you can choose keys for 3rd level, the window closes itself. So I ran it in terminal in order to see what the terminal will show. It showed me this error but I need help with decyphering it - what does it even mean? /usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-sett...

Two questions (too long to fit them in the title)
Now that the forum finally works, I can ask my questions. The first one isn't that important, it's just curiousity: why did you remove the setting for menu height in Cinnamon 5.8.0? Answer this if you want, IDC bc I froze the version at 5.6.8. I've made my theme for menu with height 1032 pixels and ...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2023
Back to the good ol' version of Cinnamon where everything simply works (including the flipping cuz no flipping = no VSync in games)! It took me a while to figure it out how to downgrade it on Arch but I finally did it, so now all the cinnamon packages are "frozen in time", a.k.a added to t...

Off-topic but that speed-dial with tabs is uber cool. I don't use Firefox but I'm jealous The name is GroupSpeedDial and according to the author's website (fastaddons.com) it's available for these browsers: https://i.imgur.com/qyDe3oz.png It doesn't look like this by default but using its settings ...

Re: Kernel 6.0
Looks like Kernel 6.0 is out officially, and brings quite a bit to the table. IDK what it brings but I know what it didn't bring and because of that I had to revert back to 5.19.13 for almost a week: DKMS compatibility and normal power management of the LAN card. nvidia-dkms didn't hook itself agai...

Re: VIM, who is it really for?
Again, Vim comes with vimtutor(1), an extensive help system I, as a user, wanna just use the text editor to do what I need to do, not to waste a few days in pointless reading of manuals. That's why when it comes to non-GUI text editors, I always resort to nano. I just open the file I need to edit, ...
