Can't Find Repository <SOLVED>

For a couple of days now, I'm getting a big X on the icon that shows when updates are ready to install. I click on it and then on Refresh updates, and get the following error message: "The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an ol...

Update Question

When the kernel update came in, I didn't check it off because I wasn't sure what to do (Linux Mint Mate 19). I assumed it would come up later and I'd have a chance to update. With Grub3, a warning came up that I'd made changes to Grub2 (to fix brightness issue) and so I didn't unchecked that too, ag...

Thunderbird-Lightning Lost Google Calendar

I got all my google calendars at first with the Lightning and Provider extensions. Then I unsubscribed to one of the calendars and haven't been able to get it back. When I got through the file-new-calendars-network menu with my email address, I get a blank screen where before I had a list of calenda...

Re: Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages

Thanks pdc_2 for hanging in there with me and trying to help!!! I found a solution and am posting it for anyone else with the same issue! I opened the configure printers utility. Then under make & model I selected change. Under choose driver, I left it at "select printer from database." I scrolled t...

Re: Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages

Thanks so much--I did read that thread, but her issue is different. She couldn't install her printer. My printer is installed, and i can see it with the configure printer utility. The only problem is the slight pause between every 2 sheets of paper. This is what I get when I do that command. network...

Re: Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages

thanks again, pdc_2...I see where to get Make & Model, but how does that tell me what driver is being used? It says Brother HL-5470DW, which is the model and make of my printer. Does that mean the driver is the Brother driver and not a generic one? (I wanted to take a screenshot like yours, but I ca...

Re: Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages

Thanks! At the bottom of the box with the printer icon, it says, Connected to localhost. How do I find out which driver it's using? And if it's airprint, how do I then get the Brother driver? I really appreciate the help!

Re: Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages

Thanks so much for your quick reply! Under make and model: HL-5470DW series. That seems to be right. the Device URI is: ipp://BRN30055C8D1F29.local:631/ipp/port1 I'm not sure about the printer memory problem--if that was the issue, then it should have been pausing under any operating system, but it'...

Brother HL-5470DW hiccups between pages <SOLVED>

My printer installed just fine, ie it appeared on the list of printers with my Linux Mint installation and printed a test page. The problem is that I want to print a long document, double-sided. Previously (on Windows 7) the printer ran continuously doing that. Just to check that everything was work...

Re: Too bright on Linux Mint 19 Mate

Thanks so much  for the reply! I was digging around last night and found something that worked! This is what I did--I'm including all the steps for anyone as new as I am as I had to use a couple of different sources to understand what to do. I posted the links below my solution because they al...

Too bright on Linux Mint 19 Mate<SOLVED>

I've got a fresh install, and everything is working well except that my thinkpad t510 is too bright. Adjusting brightness on the appelet or in the battery manager has no effect. I'm using the generic driver because the NVidia 340 driver crashed the system, requiring a fresh install. I installed xbac...
