Re: My initrd.img and vmlinuz journey
Hi, initrd.img and vmlinuz are symbolic links which point to the latest initramfs and kernel respectively. initrd.img.old and vmlinuz.old do the same for the previously installed ones (or they link to the latest version also if only a single kernel is installed). The actual kernel-versioned files ar...

Re: JACK and OBS
OBS understands JACK, you can select Jack Client as a source. The important thing with applications which record via JACK is to ensure your routing is working correctly. If you aren't getting your audio into JACK using a hardware device e.g. a USB Interface or supported sound card then you might nee...

Re: Will reinstall of Mint 19.3 allow me to change computer name and admin?
You shouldn't need to reinstall. If you've created a new user account then you should be able to select that username from the login screen and login with that account. The hostname is managed by systemd's hostnamectl command (there are actually 3 hostname settings you can change). Look at the docum...

Re: Openshot loses file
Hi, I have the same setup as the OP and don't experience this issue. The path to the title file is recorded in the project file when the project is saved. I'm a little puzzled as to why a file which is created by the application and recorded in its configuration file for the project cannot be found....

Re: switching from w10 to mint,in preparation,several things i want suggestions for,please
Hi Noal, I have just done this exercise for my wife although I chose the Cinnamon edition as a more familiar look and feel for someone coming from Windows 10. Linux Mint has UFW which can be configured to allow access to hosted services (incoming) and control Application traffic (outgoing). Beyond t...

Hi,
I have the latest 4.15.0 and 5.0.0 kernels installed. I generally use the 5.0.0 kernel but the 4.15.0 one is there in the event that 5.0.0 produces undesirable behaviour.

Re: Are You Killing Your SSD with Dual Boot ?
Hi, I am very conservative about the use of SSDs. I restrict mine to serving /usr only. This provides speed-ups for binaries, libraries and application resources. Outside of updates, this can be viewed as largely a read-only scenario with minimal writes. The gains from using a SSD are there without ...

Re: DNS problems after installing Samba
Hi, In a standard installation /etc/resolv.conf is dynamically managed by systemd-resolved and shouldn't require replacing. If your hostname has been correctly configured in systemd (there are actually 3 settings) then /etc/resolv.conf should have a search entry for your domain name which will be ap...

Hi,
There do seem to be problems with the Oracle Virtualbox repository at the moment. That could be contributing to your issues.

Hi Dan, Why did you choose BTRFS -- especially on the SSD? I've read that BTRFS has some issues with SSD write operations. Did you configure your BTRFS in any special way beyond dropping atime[/b] recording? I chose BTRFS for its support of native snapshots and I use Timeshift to manage those snapsh...

Hi, How did you configure your GMail account? I've been using Evolution on Linux Mint 19 Tara and 19.1 Tessa without issues. Re: Evolution Mail not connecting to Gmail or Hotmail
When you create a Google account (in the Online Accounts settings) GMail should be configured in Evolution automatically for you. If you cannot authenticate to Google then check your Google account setup. It may indicate that the authentication token has expired. Evolution certainly does work with G...

That seems to be standard behaviour. I think the error is in providing both a Settings and Wizard icon. There doesn't appear to any other method to configure Timeshift other than through the Wizard interface.

If you select File|Print in Document Viewer (xreader) a standard print dialog should be displayed. From there you can select a specific printer.
