Re: Win10 Pro in VM or dual boot?

The log files suggest nothing is wrong. It occurs after the login screen, I just get a blank black screen with a cursor for up to 8 minutes. Again when shutting down I get similar too. So I try and leave it online all the time. After I install Win 10 on my other SSD how do I set up a grub boot manag...

Re: Win10 Pro in VM or dual boot?

Thank you. I think I will try installing it on the seperate ssd for now...seems simpler, although it takes around 8 mins to boot into and out of linux currently so will be a time consuming thing to switch. I am debating just building a new pc specifically for gaming. I also have a gtx 690 lying arou...

Win10 Pro in VM or dual boot?

Should I install Win 10 Pro in a LM VM like VirtualBox or should I install it on it's own SSD and dual boot? I use Linux 99% of the time and then I wanna game but most games won't run in Linux. I have (or will have, I am upgrading as we speak) 3770k ~ 4.8ghz 32GB DDR3 Samsung 840 PRO 256GB (currentl...

Ethernet drops out, only rebooting fixes?

Bit of a PITA this as reboots can take up to 12 minutes for no apparent reason, due to "unknown program still running" Basically I will be browsing and every so often, once or twice a day, the internet drops out. But it still works on all my other devices. PC is connected to router via ethernet cabl...

then could not launch a terminal either by clicking on the icon or CTRL ALT T. So I aborted. No big deal I like mate. This is what I mean. I am running Cinnamon V2 19 and CTRL ALT T loads a terminal. There's no reason yours shouldn't. And yet it does not. I don't understand how one ISO image can ha...

Re: Just say NO to Mint19

Pjotr, I followed your website to a tee for both Mint and Xubuntu around a year ago, thanks! But I don't think I did anything wrong at my end. It just doesn't work sometimes. Some kinda "unknown application" tries to stop the computer shutting down. Google lists tons of people with the same problem ...

I suck at tech support so I support LM in another way:

Re: Just say NO to Mint19

I have also had some problems. I started a thread here about them and it magically disappeared overnight which is suspect (checked my thread history in case I just couldn't find it) so I stopped coming here. Mainly the problems are that the default apps don't work, opening pictures for example no lo...

Re: Safety in Linux Mint

I got ridiculed to the point of having to leave, a discord last week, when I "admitted" using Linux Mint. They said it was insecure and mocked me. Thing is, they wouldn't actually give me any reasons or facts on why it is insecure in comparison to what they recommend: Arch, or Ubuntu, or Xubuntu. Th...

Re: Firejail and other apps?

Because when I run them, they don't show up in --list.

If I launch deluge for example in firejail launcher it works correctly but launching Deluge natively launches it outside of the sandbox.

If i pre-append firejail infront of it as I did for firefox on the application it does not run at all.

Re: Intel or AMD for Linux desktop

BTW when it comes to cooling, as long as you don't overclock you can run any consumer cpu without any fans if you buy a big heatsink like a noctua D series. I am running a 6 year old 2500k with a noctua DH14 with no fans currently it never skips a beat. Granted my case does have good ventilation. It...

Re: Intel or AMD for Linux desktop

For Linux compatibility, buy Intel and Nvidia, ie avoid AMD.
From threads I read when figuring out my nvidia driver issue, it seemed the opposite was more accurate. AMD cpu and AMD gpu?

Firejail and other apps?

Hi Trying to use firejail to sandbox all apps not just firefox. According to terminal this works but when I run the apps, it doesn't sandbox them. Any ideas? Here you can see me doing it again and getting messages saying it was already working and is working now, but according to --list or --tree (n...

Re: Adding geo-Google to firefox?

I live in the UK and would ideally like to use google.co.uk Type about:config into the address bar then check the value of these fields: browser.search.region browser.search.countryCode What are they set to? Also, see this: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2539428?hl=en The Google one is...

Re: Mint 19 Desktop background reverts to default every boot

I managed to fix it, but it deletes the background at the login screen, instead there are just white dots on a black background. I'm guessing because I use nvidia and that loads at desktop?

[SOLVED]Adding geo-Google to firefox?

Due to Google being commercial and not sharing revenue with Mint, by default Google is not available to use as a default search engine in Firefox. I have managed to enable it by doing the following: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=221816 However this uses Google.com I live in the UK and...
