Re: 5.10.0.19-amd64 kernel drm_kms_helper boot issues
And this morning there's a 5.10.149-2 kernel. Anyone tried it yet? Bit gun shy after the last one.

Re: 5.10.0.19-amd64 kernel drm_kms_helper boot issues
I thought I was the only one. Yes me too. Mine went through the same, ended up on the LM icon in the middle of the screen and stopped responding. Reboot and previous kernel was the only answer. The PC specs: DeskMini UM350 Mini PC AMD Ryzen5 3550H Small Desktop pc,DDR4 16GB 512GB SSD Windows 10 Desk...

[Solved] Woes with Timeshift
I ended up wiping it all clean and installing LMDE4.
I have TS on its own drive now.

Re: Woes with Timeshift
Welp, not unsurprisingly, I didn't get my space back and it's still all clogged out. Time to break out the Mucinex, remove the dead W7 install and go with LMDE4 for a while. And take the idea, from AZgl1500 above, about putting timeshift on its own partition... My Christmas time off is going to be s...

Re: Woes with Timeshift
The 6TB entry is actually the SMB connection to a shared folder on my NAS. Now that makes much more sense.

Re: Woes with Timeshift
Well, I didn't put the partition sizes but maybe this will help. The LM partition is 831.12GB (1 TB SSD, dual booted with a dead W7 install), with 707.31 used according to GParted. But, according to DUA, I am using some 398.2GB. So 398.2 + 123.82 = 522.02GB of known HDD space. 831.12 - 522.02 = 309....

Re: Woes with Timeshift
Thanks for that. The tmp location didn't have that much space used in it. I have wiped them out though. Sadly a reboot didn't get me back more space so I think my LMDE4 boot ROM will have to come into play to see where stuff might be lurking. It's odd that the DUA shows the correct amount used (some...

Re: Woes with Timeshift
Thanks for both replies. I reset the .JSON file and followed the link. OK, to be a little clearer, I'm not stuck in a boot up loop. Here's what happened: I fiddled with timeshift and added things I shouldn't have had. Then I started a full back up with a view of it becoming the base from which the r...

Woes with Timeshift
This may well strain the idea that there are no dumb questions, but here goes... But first, yes I have looked at the Timeshift Tutorial, which was pretty good and got me back about 1% free space (to back under 90% full). However.... I have 2 newbie type questions, that google didn't seem to want to ...

Re: [Solved] Cannot access smbclient shares after upgrading to mint 20 mate
So, interestingly, I am NOT on 20. I'm running 19.2 and my smb connections, to my NAS, just quit overnight. They worked yesterday, then no workee today... I am running kernel 5.4.0-40 right now though. The addition of client min protocol = NT1 jut made my smb connections work too. So maybe this isn'...

Re: LMDE 4
As soon as LMDE4 comes out, I'm going to migrate my laptop and desktop to it. I dual booted my desktop with LM 19.2 and D 10 and I have been spoiled up the extra update manager stuff that vanilla Debian didn't have.

Many thanks for this. For whatever reason my LM19 install suddenly got this error message on login and these steps helped me fix it.
My only comment would be that I had to keep hitting the Ctl-Alt F1 step as it was never quite clear as which black/blank screen it was.

LM19 and USB BT dongle
I bought a no name BT USB dongle (stupid really, I know), that claimed support for Linux, and tried to connect it to my Sony WH-1000XM2 noise cancelling headphones from my fresh LM 19 install on my Dell Latitude E5500 laptop. They did connect and they did connect via the 2 BT program options that I ...

Re: Hello from WNY
My FiL wouldn't have the slightest clue about opening terminal windows, editing files and digging through directories looking for log files... In his current W10 (unclean...) all he does is point, click and done. This is what I meant. The reason I joined the forums was about how to get bookmarks to ...

[Solved] LM 19 clean install, NAS drives and bookmarks
Newbie question around networking existing NAS drives, admin password and bookmarks. I dropped a new, clean, 5400rpm Segate into my old (think made for Vista) exworks Dell Latitude E5500, and carried out a clean install of LM19 (v2) on it. I then tried to find my Synolgy NAS and WD NAS. No joys. Som...

Hello from WNY
I'm a soon to be an ex-W7 user who's looking to get somewhere without so much spying and the like. I've dabbled in LM for a little while now, with LM19 being my latest foray into the world of Linux. I'm making more of a concerted effort this time because of the whole W7 EOL thing. Being bad that I a...
