Re: A review of Mint by Dedoimedo

Anxiously awaiting Linux Dedoimedo to try it out :P . Until then, I've had almost no issues with 19 that weren't easily worked out in the forums and have been happily using it for months now and love it. Actually kind of get ticked off now if I have to switch to a Windows machine to do things at wor...

Re: Best Practices for Timeshift Snapshots?

There is something wrong with timeshift in 19. I just had a problem surface that / had no space left and after booting the installer and changing the partitions to give it more space was able to get back in and do some searching. I had timeshift set up to do a once a month snapshot and now looking a...

Re: [SOLVED] Intel Wireless 3160 bluetooth connection issues

After much aggravation, I do remember how I fixed this last time. I had to uninstall Blueberry and install Blueman in its place.

[SOLVED] Intel Wireless 3160 bluetooth connection issues

After upgrading my Acer AO725-0687 netbook from Mint 18 to 19, I'm having a problem with my Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev cb) now connecting with my Dell WM524 bluetooth mouse. Never had any problems in Mint 18 with it (but I had it so long on that system I don't recall if there was something...

Re: Linux Mint 19 Xfce saving screen resolution

Ok... I figured this out. I created the bash file with the commands listed before, and made the file executable. Then under Session and Startup ->Application Autostart I pointed to the hidden folder I created and stored this script in. If this helps anyone else - I named the file sharptv.sh and save...

Love 19 so far.

I've had one computer that I reluctantly kept on Win7 for a long time and others loaded with Mint 18. After testing out 19 for a while, I'm forever ditching windows as I noticed it was pushing through updates I repeatedly set to hide and not install and it appears their purpose was remote based info...

<SOLVED> Linux Mint 19 Xfce saving screen resolution

I have set up an older computer with 19 Xfce and am using it with a Sharp TV I have that accepts a VGA input and my video card has dual DVI outputs I have to use an adapter with to go to the VGA. Re: LM19 corrupting files on USB flash drives and SD cards

After having this continue... I've just stopped using any .txt files and turned them all into files that can be opened in LibreOffice. Seems to be a workaround.

Re: LM19 corrupting files on USB flash drives and SD cards

This is two thumb drives and an SD card all pretty much at the same time. The odds are pretty remote all three went corrupt at the same time. Sandisk brand, bought at Wally World. I had tried the USB 3 and 2 ports and the same thing happened with the thumb drives. I managed to create backups on my w...

LM19 corrupting files on USB flash drives and SD cards

I'm getting random corrupting of (specifically .txt files so far) files and folders on my thumb drives and SD cards. When I try to open up the files in a text editor is states the file has been corrupted and it shows a string of various characters and a lot of 0's with a red background in it. I just...

USB adapter that is plug and play in Mint 19

My older Netgear USB adapter (broadcom chip) that I was able to use in Mint 18 after some fighting with it doesn't want to work in 19 no matter what I've tried. So... I just thought I would put this out there for anyone that it might help. I bought one of those Panda Mini Wifi N USB adapters off eba...

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

to me - that's still wrong - - Banks 1 & 2 have a Kingston DDR3 stick, each, & according to the web manual, those sticks should be in slots 1 & 3 .. .. ( or slots 2 & 4 - depending on the stick physical type ) Well... the other day when you mentioned it, I tried that and even 2 & 4 just to see. Ton...

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

Hmm...it does look like there is only 2GB total physical RAM, but I don't have any clue as to why. BTW, am I reading right that you have a 30GB swap space? Let's try a different command free -h and see if it shows the same amount. total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 1.9G 925M 270M 48M ...

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

I scanned through the thread again, but don't see what you are using to measure RAM. Post the output of the free -m terminal command. Maybe that will give us more insight into what is going on. total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 1950 1105 76 77 769 723 Swap: 30516 14 30502

I wonder if the video card is sharing RAM...
The onboard video has been disabled in BIOS. If the other Nvidia card that is installed is sharing it, I'm not sure that there's anything I could do about that. With the opensource driver and the Nvidia driver the results were the same.

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

can you download a copy of LM 18x series, any of them really, and then, from the Live Media, do another check of the available RAM ?. Same - 1.9G available. I tried swapping modules, and putting one in the second instead of the third slot. Same outcome. It's like it's only seeing slot 1 once the OS...

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

Actually that is the same version of BIOS I already have loaded. The website lists it as the following year, but the version is the same after install and it still shows the same build date (12/20/2011). Still only showing 1.9G of RAM. I had tried the P01-A4L Linux version of the BIOS but it just ki...

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

What does your BIOS say about the amount of memory?
It shows 4gig. I should have also noted I just removed Win7 moving exclusively to Linux and Windows recognized 4 as well.

Re: Linux Mint 19 only showing 2 gig out of 4 gig or RAM

have you got those DIMM cards in slots 1 & 3,,
& with slot 1 being the closest to the motherboard power connector.
Yes I do. Should I just install them in 1 & 2?
