Re: Can't open Software Manager and Software Sources

Thanks again, Damien!

You are so right. If only I had taken your advice and reloaded, I would have seen that.

Like I said, I am so unfamiliar with the whole repository thing.

Re: Can't open Software Manager and Software Sources

Thanks Damien1307, After I typed that command, I get the message back: 1 package can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see it. So, I run that command, apt list --upgradable and got the message back Listing... Done google-chrome-stable/stable 70.0.3538.110-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 70.0] N:...

Could not refresh the list of updates

Since this is along the same lines as the original poster, I hope this is a good place to post this: In the Update Manager, for a couple of weeks now, I'm getting the error message: Could not refresh the list of updates Repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux./chrome/deb stable Release' changed its '...

Re: Java jdk1.8.0_181

Thanks, Karl, That seems to straighten out the JAVA_HOME environmental variable issue. But, I just run mvn -v again and get a message from bash saying that I need to install it, which, I believe I already have. I think I know the issue. I need to edit PATH in the .bashrc or the .profile. I think tha...

Java jdk1.8.0_181

Hello all, And, thanks for the help in the past. I want to install the Java Developer Kit, along with Apache-Maven, so that I can do some Java tutorials in VS Code. I installed jdk1.8.0_181 to /opt/java/jdk1.8.0_181/bin and apache-maven to /home/mike/apache-maven/apache-maven-3.5.4/bin. According to...

Re: USB Wi-Fi Device Realtek RTL8811AU

Jeremy B, You are a genius. Up and running, and I thank you very, very much. And you're right also. I looked up Chicony Electronics Ltd., I think that is the name of the company, and they are manufacturers of imaging devices, cameras, etc. The camera on my notebook, which I have hardly ever used mus...

Re: USB Wi-Fi Device Realtek RTL8811AU

OK.

I turned off Secure Boot from my BIOS.

I tried $sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms

I'm getting the message: ftl8812au is already the newest version (4.3.........

It still doesn't seem to work. I'll try to reboot.

Re: USB Wi-Fi Device Realtek RTL8811AU

Thanks, Christian, That's the kind of answers I've been waiting for. I was totally unaware that you can retrieved drivers from a repo. Trying it now..... Whoa! This Secure Boot thing is really a pain. I got to get into my BIOS and disable that. It looks now like my system is totally hung up. No curs...

Re: Mint 19-Tara. Where's the wireless gone?

I'm so glad this question is not that old. I notice Jeremy B. that you also had the same USB Wi-Fi device I'm having problems with, the Realtek RTL8811AU. Mine has been dark after having converted my HP Pavilion G6 -2231DX from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 19 -Cinnamon. From the advice you gave to abmsc...

USB Wi-Fi Device Realtek RTL8811AU

Ever since I converted my HP Pavilion G6 -2231DX from a Windows 10 OS to a Linux Mint 19 -Cinnamon OS, my USB Wi-Fi device has remained dark. I do have the original installation CD for this device, and, it has a Linux Section, but the source code does not have a 'config' file, nor a .deb file, so, I...
