Re: Xfce minimize to titlebar not visible

Yeah, why not Shade? The behaviour is pricesely what you might have on your shades in the living room windows.

Re: Xfce minimize to titlebar not visible

The Up arrow is what it looks like in Debian 10 but I don't have the Mint 20 box within reach just now so can't try anything.

Re: Xfce minimize to titlebar not visible

Thanks! I sounds exactly what I'm looking for only I expected something visible to click on. I'll certainly try that. :)

Re: AMD Graphic Card Driver Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon

I did try various settings like nomodeset and I could also force nouveau to load by some fiddling with xorg.conf and grub which it didn't out of the box. Apparently there is some conflict on the HP laptop because although noveau loaded I could not get it to display through the Thunderbolt dock or vi...

[Solved]Xfce minimize to titlebar not visible

One of the things I liked with Xfce was the ability to minimize a window so that only the titlebar is visible. Fluxbox also had or has this feature. This is not possible in Mint 20, at least not out of the box. Is there any way to restore the feature?

Thanks beforehand for any suggestions.

Re: AMD Graphic Card Driver Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon

Exactly the same thing happened to me but installing CentOS on a HP laptop with dedicated nVidia graphics. To get it right I had to disable the Intel graphics on the motherboard in BIOS/UEFI, then everything worked out of the box also with Mint. You can try to install the open amdgpu package: xserve...

Re: How to automate macspoofing via macchanger on reboot?

I have sometimes the need to set the MACADRESS to a specific one but have no need to make it automatic so I wrote a python 2.7 script named staticmac.py that I run manually when needed. There are hopefully enough comments in it for you to understand how it works and to adapt it to your needs. To mak...

Re: Mint 20 Laptop external HDMI monitor howto setup

According to the Inxi output the driver for the motherboard graphics is i915 which looks fine to me. However, the GeForce GTX 960M card is run by the nouveau driver. (But I would recommend displaying the command outputs separately, perhaps by enclosing them in a code listing. It would make your post...

Installing both Xfce and Mate in Mint 20 Ulyana

Back in the day when I first tried Linux and got hooked, Mandrake BTW in 1997, I was impressed by the number of DEs that were installed out of the box. Well, it was more window managers, really. If one thing has annoyed me with Mint it is that out of the box you get just the one. Of course, graphica...

Re: I'm in Python purgatory

FWIW if you need to operate several versions of python I recommend using relevant versions of Anaconda python https://anaconda.org/anaconda and Environment Modules https://modules.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ to keep them from interfering with each other and with the system python. Anaconda itself has ...

Re: [solved]: crontab audio-recorder issue

Well, I plugged in another hard disk that I happened to have and some installations and configurations later I seem to have a reliable data logger which has so far faithfully logged audio data initiated by cron for two days. A curious side note is that audio-recorder defines decibel using natural lo...

Re: Wireguard VPN fails with some kernels?

Purged wireguard installation, installed the latest supported kernel 5.4.0-37-generic which as far as I can tell is running fine allthough it's not supported for very long. Updated the package database and reinstalled wireguard. This time I got a module for the running kernel and I could get wiregua...

Re: Wireguard VPN fails with some kernels?

Interesting! There was an update that refused to install for me (Mint 19.1). It provided that new kernel 5.3.0-1026-gke you speak of but for some reason didn't bring along the corresponding headers so the module didn't compile. Once I installed the headers the wg module compiled and I could connect ...

Re: [solved]: crontab audio-recorder issue

"remounted read-only" is exactly what happened. Twice! And the system summary during recovery wrote BAD about the file system. Anyway, I'll do the suggested checks to see if they confirm that a dying disk is, indeed, the case. BTW the disk is really old and certainly not an SSD. It sits in an Acer l...

Re: [solved]: crontab audio-recorder issue

rene: As your answer implies, removing the output and error redirection caused the GDK-Critical nuisance to appear in the root mail. Well, I'll go for ignoring GDK-Critical stuff but the bad thing is it seems I have a dying hard disk. The program stopped running on me again and this time it was beca...

So the thing is working now but still I sometimes get messages in the start error log: Gdk-CRITICAL **: 09:30:02.754: gdk_window_thaw_toplevel_updates: assertion 'window->update_and_descendants_freeze_count > 0' failed pops up every now and then. Re: [solved]: crontab audio-recorder issue

[EDIT] Oh, by the way, keep that DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS thingy; it's now supposedly identified as a different problem to begin with, but if you don't set it, you will on MATE launch a new session bus just for the sake of audio-recorder which is in the previously mentioned sense not right at least...
