Re: wifi option not available after installing linux Cinnamon 19.2

I happened to come across this article earlier, might be a starting point for you?

I have the issue on a HP computer running LM 19.3 on a Live installation - https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... k.html#ID7.

Have not got around to trying the solution yet.

Re: Newbie

A lot of good advice here - https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/2.html.

Whilst it now specifies LM 20, a lot of it will still apply to LM 19.

Re: Lifetime windows user very interested in learning Linux mint

Here's a very good reference guide .

I would suggest you read before attempting to install Linux Mint on a W10 machine - as there are a few common pitfalls.

The guide is written by one of Linux Mints Senior members - https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/1.html

Re: Worth changing customised 19.2 in 20

Stick with your 19.2 if it's doing all you currently need it to.

I'm on 19.3 and see no reason to update.

If you have newer hardware, that's better supported by LM20 - then it's a consideration.

This forum is littered with posts from people who needlessly upgrade, and then come unstuck.

Re: Did I miss a step? Can't boot back into Windows 10

On the installation, Mint should have detected your Windows 7 and offered to install alongside it. When your machine rebooted after installation (and you were instructed to remove your live media - ie the USB drive) - you should have been presented with the option of choosing which system you wanted...

Re: Random boot. Quick advice

Hi Lukaa, In order for anyone to have a chance helping you, you need to include more details re your computer set up. Include the version and architecture (32-bit, 64-bit) of Linux Mint. List any relevant hardware or software specifications. 'inxi' is a useful terminal command for listing this. Use ...

Re the different time issues on Linux and W10, it's to do with how the systems get the time.

Re: Can't find what is taking up disk space

Check your Timeshift back ups. This is the usual offender. They take up a lot of space. Delete some of these, and thereafter consider saving back ups to an external HDD.

Re: Can't comment on Facebook with a picture? HOW?!

If you want to add a photo (or video) to the comment section of a Facebook post, just click on the camera icon (next to the smiling face emoji icon) in the comment window and browse to the location of the photo you want to insert.

This is exactly the same thing you would do on Windows .

Re: Upgraded to 19.3 - kernel version ?

As I understand it, If you upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3, you will keep the standard Kernel. If you do the fresh install, you'll get the 5.0. If your hardware is running fine, no need to upgrade the kernel. Stay as you are.

Re Password manager, Lastpass browser extension works great on Firefox and Chrome. Used it for years with no problems. The free version will be fine for most users, and syncs across your devices.

Install W7 first. Then install Linux Mint alongside Windows - accepting the defaults presented by the LM Installer. I can see no point considering a VM installation, when you have struggled so far on the basic installation. Keep it simple - as you have stated yourself. Here's a good Linux Mint refer...

Re: Can anyone recommend a good Mint FireWall

I find this site, as a good reference guide for all things Linux Mint. It's written by one of this forums senior members - https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/2.html

It covers turning on the Firewall, amongst a load of other 'first things to do' after installing.
