Re: PDF Viewers Rendering PDF Fonts Improperly

@RIH, thank you for that. I am going to label this as SOLVED. The issue appears to be with the Cairo Backend of the Poppler PDF Rendering Library which both Evince and Xreader use. Okular apparently uses a different Poppler backend (Splash) which doesn't have the same issue. I am not sure what the o...

Re: PDF Viewers Rendering PDF Fonts Improperly

Another alternative to ocular and evince is qpdfview, don't know if it will be any better. I am awash in PDF viewers, but I will add this one, too. It rendered the Verizon page legibly. I will open my bills this month with an assortment and see what takes my fancy. :D I have made Master PDF Editor ...

I guess you mean that it seems to be selecting for a smaller font than is being displayed.
In Okular it does not select the text cleanly as expected.
It either selects on the bottom half of the text:

Or it refuses to select just one line:
That is the behavior I observed as well.

Re: PDF Viewers Rendering PDF Fonts Improperly

A sample document for your examination: Verizon_bill_font.pdf That document appears to be malformed. In Okular, if you go to "Tools" - "Text Selection Tool" and then swipe some of the text, you will see what I mean. Perhaps Master PDF Editor is responsible for that issue, but I'...

Re: PDF Viewers Rendering PDF Fonts Improperly

I got sent home after half a day today so I got a chance to do some follow up: Can you supply a sample PDF that we can experiment with? I would like to see what happens when I open it in Okular and the other programs you mention. I found Master PDF Editor (Trial Version) in the Software Manager and ...

Re: PDF Viewers Rendering PDF Fonts Improperly

Very strange indeed. I have opened quite a few PDF's with GIMP and have not seen this problem. Just for kicks, increase the resolution in GIMP to 300 dpi to see if that changes anything. Can you supply a sample PDF that we can experiment with? I would like to see what happens when I open it in Okul...

Re: Panel Launchers in Other Distributions

Sorry for the long delay in getting back, long days and all that. Hopefully I'll be regularly under 60 hours a week at work soon. I appreciate everyone giving feedback and making the effort. majpooper, thank you for going to the trouble of firing up a VM. That was very kind of you. RickNS and HoserR...

Re: Panel Launchers in Other Distributions

I did search for answers in the Solus forum and Ubuntu Budgie pages. That is why I figured that I was just not using the right terminology. Or, as seems to be the theme of my life, I asked a question nobody ever asked before. Usually because the answer is blindingly obvious. I have played with a few...

Re: Panel Launchers in Other Distributions

I don't think you are being rude, I suppose it's a fair question. I assumed that someone here would have an idea, I know many of the regulars have been using various distros and DEs for years. I could have set up an account on the Solus forums but I already have an account here and I don't see the q...

Re: Panel Launchers in Other Distributions

Well, after much search term roulette I found (for Budgie) this https://discuss.getsol.us/d/3680-creating-a-launcher which are instructions for creating a .desktop file to launch a program. Since you can add arguments for launching you can have an application start and open a document. You can place...

Panel Launchers in Other Distributions

Hello all, On my Mint Cinnamon installs I just add a panel to the left side of the monitor that auto hides with launchers for my home directory, data directory, a spreadsheet for tracking my weight and BP, an application I use regularly for converting units, the calculator, etc. It is just a conveni...

Re: kde connect doesnt start

I just went through this myself today. There are two listings in the software center. You need both of them. The one that is KDEConnect and the one that is "Indicator" for KDEConnect. It's the second one that gives you access to the first when using a non-KDE desktop environment. On my com...

Re: Why Google and Facebook should pay ?

The government was ostensibly protecting the local little guy while fighting the big, bad Google while in reality just looking for votes from people who hate big corps, especially if foreign. The fact that the measure backfired and hurt who they said they were protecting meant nothing. This is how ...

Re: What are the first things you do when you boot up?

I shut down each night or when I finish with the computer. Do you manually run your backups and timeshifts? I've always left my computers running and scheduled everything for when I am usually away/asleep. I have often wondered, especially with Windows machines, if the people who turn on the comput...

Re: What are the first things you do when you boot up?

If I've just booted the computer, I either go looking for why it rebooted or I continue what I was doing before I rebooted it. In the morning, on the other hand, I unpause my playlist on audacious, I start Thunderbird, and I open Vivaldi. Then I review any emails and check some forums while I sip my...

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia driver not working until x restart on LM 20.0 cinnamon

mintlol, I apparently have the same issue going on. Logging out and in again fixed the display which I consider verification enough. I'm trying to apply your solution but I don't have an "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file. Did you create that file? I get the impression from your post that it was pr...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

I disabled Spices Update and it made things better but Cinnamon is still crashing. I was sitting here listening to Spotify and the screens went blank, based on the power settings, and the music stopped. I moved the mouse and was back at the login screen so it was obvious what had happened. ~/.xsess...
