Re: kde connect doesnt start

I just went through this myself today. There are two listings in the software center. You need both of them. The one that is KDEConnect and the one that is "Indicator" for KDEConnect. It's the second one that gives you access to the first when using a non-KDE desktop environment. On my computer the ...

Re: Why Google and Facebook should pay ?

The government was ostensibly protecting the local little guy while fighting the big, bad Google while in reality just looking for votes from people who hate big corps, especially if foreign. The fact that the measure backfired and hurt who they said they were protecting meant nothing. This is how ...

Re: What are the first things you do when you boot up?

I shut down each night or when I finish with the computer. Do you manually run your backups and timeshifts? I've always left my computers running and scheduled everything for when I am usually away/asleep. I have often wondered, especially with Windows machines, if the people who turn on the comput...

Re: What are the first things you do when you boot up?

If I've just booted the computer, I either go looking for why it rebooted or I continue what I was doing before I rebooted it. In the morning, on the other hand, I unpause my playlist on audacious, I start Thunderbird, and I open Vivaldi. Then I review any emails and check some forums while I sip my...

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia driver not working until x restart on LM 20.0 cinnamon

mintlol, I apparently have the same issue going on. Logging out and in again fixed the display which I consider verification enough. I'm trying to apply your solution but I don't have an "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file. Did you create that file? I get the impression from your post that it was preexisting ...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

I disabled Spices Update and it made things better but Cinnamon is still crashing. I was sitting here listening to Spotify and the screens went blank, based on the power settings, and the music stopped. I moved the mouse and was back at the login screen so it was obvious what had happened. ~/.xsess...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Sorry for the long delay in updating, I'm running ragged these days. I had to remove SpU again as the problem returned with the applet installed and running. I tried disabling theme updates first (as claudiux suggested in a reply to someone on github) but that had no effect on the crashing. There is...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Update: It has been 14 days with no crashes. I see that the Spices Update applet has been updated and I have reinstalled it. I will report back. I was finally able to get past GitHub's Captcha (Third party javascript that I had to figure out the source of so that I could whitelist it). I went throug...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Update: It has been ten days since I removed Spices Update and I have not had Cinnamon crash on me during that time. This leads me to my next step, reporting my issue to claudiux. I checked on GitHub and poked around a bit. I have to admit that I am having a hard time figuring out what the terminolo...

Re: What do you do with a json file? Patreon has given me some.

Thank you for the replies! I have looked at the files with a text editor so I knew that much. But the text is packed in among the code. Sort of like looking at a .doc with a text editor: You can see what is in there, it just isn't very neat or easy to read. I had seen the json viewer websites but wa...

What do you do with a json file? Patreon has given me some.

Here is an odd question, apparently. My searches on line have given me lots of results for learning how to use json files in the context of creating files/web pages/etc but nothing relevant to my question: Is there a way to display json files so that the data they contain is just displayed without a...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Sorry I am late to this thread, but I had a similar problem on Manjaro Cinnamon, and after a lot of debugging (doing what you are trying now, removing all applets and adding them one by one) I did realize that the problem was Spices Update. I had daily crashes until I finally realized that SU was t...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Looks like I get similar crashes from libglib. But I also get crashes of app-sn-watcher. My applets list is almost the same as Tater's one (except Weather). I tried to disable Multi-Core System Monitor but this didn't help. My system: https://termbin.com/r341 Cinnamon crash: https://termbin.com/wnw...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

And again this morning. This time I checked the box to disable all downloaded applets and extensions. I'll give it a week or two and see if that solves the issue. Then I will add back applets until it crashes again, I guess. Here is the crash report: https://termbin.com/dflt I have been playing with...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

And again this morning: https://termbin.com/v5py I missed the checkbox to disable all applets and extensions on Cinnamon when I restarted it. Since I haven't gotten any bites on helping to diagnose the issue from the logs, does anyone know how to restart Cinnamon without applets/extensions enabled t...

LM 20 Cinnamon Crashes to Fallback Mode

Greetings All, I put a fresh install of LM20 Cinnamon on my HP 505B tower's SSD. All went well and the OS is running fine except that: On three occasions, so far, I have returned to my computer after being away for a few hours to find that Cinnamon had crashed and reverted to fallback mode. Restarti...

Re: They want consumers. What if you aren't?

My interest in this, for the moment, is in the "why" end of the thing. The security and privacy implications are well discussed already. The business reason is to sell product to people. Targeted adverts, theoretically, are more valuable than general screaming at the clouds. But... From what I can s...

They want consumers. What if you aren't?

Hello all, I've been reading "Which Browser" thread and it got me to thinking: If the primary goal all these companies (Google, Facebook, etc.) is to sell you, as a consumer, to interested third parties, what if you aren't? What I mean is, the purpose of gathering all the information they can is to ...

Re: I've been having this bug and it just won't go away.

I had a similar effect occurring with Vivaldi browser using LM 19.3 Cinnamon. I tracked it down to an anomaly caused by using the "native window" under "Settings": "Appearance": "Use Native Window". When I deselected this option and restarted the browser, the problem was no longer there. Other Chrom...
