Re: Linux Mint 19.1 Not Working with GTX 1660 Ti

Hi, I tried again today and still no progress. I have a feeling something else is also messed up in my installation. I tried updating software, and got the following message: The repository 'cdrom://Linux Mint 19.1 _Tessa_ - Release amd64 20181217 bionic Release' does not have a Release file.Updatin...

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 Not Working with GTX 1660 Ti

Should I try Ubuntu then since its kernel versions are more up-to date than Mint? I'll miss out on cinnamon DE though :(
Have you tried adding the PPA to ensure that the server problem isn't just from my side?

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 Not Working with GTX 1660 Ti

That might happen with very new hardware.... Linux tends to lag some six months behind with driver support. The graphics-drivers PPA is the tool to use for you, so you're seeking in the right direction. Did you add that PPA correctly, i.e. as follows: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/pp...

Linux Mint 19.1 Not Working with GTX 1660 Ti

So I recently built my first PC, managed to install Win10 pretty smoothly. When it came to mint however, I kept on having display related issues. First, here's the inxi output: $ inxi -Fx System: Host: home-MS-7B89 Kernel: 4.18.0-17-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 7.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4....

Re: Cinammon Crash

I'm not experienced with Linux either but I did have cinnamon crash on me when I was modifying some js files and had syntax errors. If you could compare the files in your system with the one in https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/tree/3.8.9 then you might have a clue.

If you read the line just above, you'd realise it's the same fingerprint. Go ahead with your ISO and hopefully you have a successful install!

I have a feeling you aren't able to follow text based instruction, try watching this small video, should be similar if you're using MATE desktop environment.

I'm not well versed enough in how Linux works but you probably need to write down your system specs if you want meaningful help from others.

Re: partizionare HD con mint 19 cinnamon tara 64 bit

I hope Google can translate this to Italian well enough: Are you trying to create a partition using live USB or while you're already in LM19? If you're accessing gparted through LM19, the partition will be busy. If you wish to shrink / partition while in LM19, try using Disks utility. I'd prefer man...

Re: Linux Mint : Black screen with mouse pointer after login.

I'm also relatively new to LM, but I think others can help you better if you post the result of inxi -Fxz Also I think in your case, just post the result of this command too: cat /etc/default/grub Note: You'll need to change to a non-graphical tty session (Eg: tty1 => Ctrl + Alt + F1). I don't think...

Boot Order Changes Whenever Interrupting Boot

On my HP Pavilion laptop, whenever I press Esc during boot to manually select boot disk (Eg: Selecting USB drive with live distro image), I've noticed that the boot order changes and makes Windows boot manager default again. To correct this, I have to manually select ubuntu boot manager as boot disk...

I also have an HP Pavilion 15 series laptop, although an older model.
Does it look like this?

For me, I have limited options when I switch to Intel integrated GPU. Switching back to Nvidia GPU gives me extended options.

Hi, You updated the Nvidia driver, right? How did you do it? Manually or via a PPA? Or using the Driver manager menu? And can you do this for us: open a terminal type the following terminal command: sudo inxi -Fxz . Keep in mind that you need to type your password in the terminal and when typing yo...

For the Nvidia card, it's showing nvidia driver in use. For intel: $ lspci -knn | grep -EiA3 'vga|3d' 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a16] (rev 09) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Control...

Received Nvidia Driver Update to 390.77

Issues that are still unresolved for me: Nvidia GPU falling off the bus during suspend and hang after logout. At least there's the option to switch with a logout, but I guess the implementation falls flat on the face for my setup.

Anyone else tried the update? Your thoughts?

Re: HP Laptop Wifi Indicator Behaviour

It works with Windows out of the box though, plus I haven't seen any LED related options in BIOS. I think I figured out how it works(based on trigger files for caps-lock and numlock), the trigger for any LED should be one in square brackets. However it's not advisable to modify files in /sys right?...
