Re: Why did you decide to install Linux Mint??

Thinkpad? Join the club! Nah, it's a ThinkCentre M83 desktop. Got it really cheap from a computer learning charity, and them already having Linux Mint on it pushed me over the buying line... I'll figure out the laptop later. And now, I have. A ThinkPad L412 laptop arrived today, and I'm using it no...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

Taxes. ... The "fillable form" requires, yes, requires, Adobe Acrobat Reader to do the automatic calculations before printing out the finished form. It doesn't work within Chrome. I just tried it with Okular (after about 5 minutes fighting the "Captcha") & it didn't seem to work on that either, alt...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

Taxes. In this case, my city tax return. Since I don't have an "electronic filing code" (not sure why I never got one, I've lived at the same address for five years), I have to use the city's "fillable PDF form"...in lieu of printing it out and hand writing my calculations. https://www.akronohio.gov...

Is this the TP link adapter that works with mint? https://www.ebay.com/itm/TP-Link-TL-WN722N-846561012744-Wireless-Adapter/192868833917?epid=141348245&hash=item2ce7e0da7d:g:ic4AAOSwE9hcYuiS That does appear to be the same one I'm using - all the way through my change to a new (to me) Lenovo desktop...

Re: LM 19 Cinnamon - Downgrading?

I am a newbie and wanted to know why none of you adviced to just change the DE from cinammon to xfce and why to clean install ? See above. Been there, did that, ran Xfce for a few months and was fine with it. This output in the last message is from a new computer I just got yesterday (see my signat...

I just bought a used computer, a Lenovo i5, that has Mint preinstalled. Though it's obviously not the "latest and greatest", it'll blow the doors off of this aging Dell that I am running Xfce on...

Re: [SOLVED by updates] Flaw in Linux APT Allows Remote Attackers to Hack Systems

Oddly enough, I learned of this news (of the problem) a day after Update Manager had already updated APT. :D

When I saw that update, I thought it was odd that APT was being updated, but didn't know why until I saw the news articles.

Re: Canon MG7720 printer

The driver support page for the TR7520 actually comes up with some optional drivers (and software?) for Linux 64-bit: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/tr-series-inkjet/pixma-tr7520-wireless-office-all-in-one-printer?tab=drivers_downloads...

Re: Canon MG7720 printer

For the record...

We just got a Canon Pixma TR7520 printer in the house.

I turned on the wireless part of the printer, and Linux Mint recognized it immediately as a Pixma TR7500 series on the network...and it works with no additional drivers needed.

If it matters, I'm on Linux Mint 19.1.

Can't do it, of course, since the desktop machine in question is still dead...but I will try it again if I manage to get it to boot again.

Re: LM 19 Cinnamon - Downgrading?

So, the old Dell desktop machine has apparently officially bitten the official dust :D There is a one line ROM error message. If I had to guess, the battery inside probably ran out of juice. Considering how old that thing is... So, I'm back on Cinnamon over here, as I moved the laptop over here and ...

Re: VICE Emulator in Mint 18.3 CInnamon 64-bit

Yeahh... I see your point @Inundated. I am waiting to see what Retro Game's Full size C64 is like. I am actually more interested in the C-128. Faster processor, more memory, and better BASIC. Maybe if the new C-64 sells well enough, we'll see a sexy new C-128. But that's not very Linux-Mint related...

Re: windows 7 EOL opportunity for linux?

It took me, a reasonably competent Windows end user, years before I felt comfortable with Linux as a replacement for the EOL-ed Windows XP. XP EOL was in 2014, and I didn't get around to going with Linux (Mint 19) until Fall 2018. Instead, I just shut down the Windows XP Dell and decided to just use...

Re: Nemo Is Great Compared To Windows Explorer, But.....................

Since I have Xfce on the desktop, I'm curious about how Nemo and Thunar compare. (I'll search out a comparison somewhere.) I believe there is the equivalent of compact mode in Thunar, though I couldn't get list/details/compact working at the same time. I am not at home right now, so I'll tinker with...
