Re: User Accounts Problem

Fixed it - Somehow the password had been changed on my own user account to that which I had set for the Samba Guest account. The name for my account had been somehow set to blank so it was in the list. Just disguised as whitespace. I created a new account called Admin with full admin rights just in ...

To try and make things easier for myself I installed gadmin-samba from the standard repositories. I used gadmin-samba to set up a samba guest account - smbguest ...

Mint XFCE

First I installed ubuntu 16.04 and I was happy. Then came 18.04 and it broke everything. I installed Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon and I was happy again because everything worked. My happiness was short through as I caught the dreaded "out of focus desktop" that made games crash, a lot. I installed XFCE al...

Cinnamon to XFCE and a back up and restore question

Hi Guys. I installed Linux Mint 19 with Cinnamon. After a while I noticed that my desktop would frequently go fuzzy and text would suddenly come back sharp if I moved the mouse. I also noticed that on startups where it did this games would frequently crash. I installed XFCE alongside Cinnamon but it...

Re: Newly Formatted Drive is root only.

Done that -R makes it work Recursively, does this matter on a newly formatted blank partition?

I just need to be sure that this drive comes up with me as owner after each reboot. I've had awful issues with USB keys reverting to root each time I plug them back in.

Re: USB stick is read only in NTFS (not the usual fastboot )

Never mind! :) Answer - Use the mkfs.exfat tool built into Mint to make it exFAT as it should have been in the first place. WARNING: If you try to use this method then be sure to replace sdc with the correct identifier for your USB drive. ruth@ruth-mint:~$ sudo gdisk /dev/sdc [sudo] password for rut...

[SOLVED] USB stick is read only in NTFS (not the usual fastboot )

Hi, I've just taken a USB stick and reformatted it to NTFS as I couldn't make it exFat in linux. However, as the titles says it's read only. I've read around the subject and found that the usual cause of this is fast boot causing linux to mount ntfs partitions as read only to prevent data loss. Howe...

Re: Unexpected Shutdowns

A week of internal graphics with no issues (but no games either ) I've reinstalled the supposedly faulty graphics card and I will see what happens. If the issue comes back then I know it was that card. On a side note when I took the graphics card out, one of it's power connectors came out rather too...

I could not find anything in the "Logs" application in Mint. Re: Unexpected Shutdowns

Well, it's definitely a hardware fault. I yesterday I rebooted into Windows and got it all updated after 18 months of not using it ( I REALLY want to play Elite Dangerous again ). This morning while pottering around on facebook it did the exact same thing but in Windows. Screens go off, then anythin...
