Re: error issue

I have a feeling it's not a loop... It's going through files, one at a time... taking 10 to 25 seconds a file...
I can't say for sure about it looping but the numbers are going up... the hdd failing is a possibility... it's an older laptop.

Here's a screenshot showing what it's doing...

Re: error issue

I just did a quick count an there were more than three dozen threads with new posts today on the newbie section. That sounds "alive" to me. I think I didn't scroll far, maybe just saw the dates on pinned posts... weird, I know I didn't see much new... oh well. So, I don't know if I should...

error issue

I don't see much activity in this forum. Is it dead? or just not a lot of newbies to ask questions? I don't really use Mint myself right now... but booting up a computer that's been sitting around for a while. I set up Mint for my wife a while back... the computer has been sitting so long, I just wa...

Re: authenticating?

Here's as step-by-step as I can make it: Absolutely perfect. I mean, I don't understand anything I just did but that took just a couple minutes and went flawlessly. I hope someone can go to the verify page of the instillation guide and at the very least link back to that. And hopefully when I get t...

Re: authenticating?

How important is this authentication step? I'm about ready to give up. I've read through countless discussions(most of them here) and there's a lot of repetition, saying the same types of things that are just confusing. Finally found someone wrote a step by step on how to do it all... very lengthy a...

Re: authenticating?

I edited the first post... meant to just edit it a little and then reply... oops. Thanks for the link, got the CMD step for checking the integrity done and the string it spit out matched what it was supposed to... I'm just a little lost on the authentication part... it's greek to me. Anyway, it will...

Re: "Verify your ISO image" instructions for Windows users

For the authenticity check you can download Gpg4win, Can you explain what I then do with that program? Which files do I need to already have somewhere, etc? I want to make sure I'm running it correctly. First time I tried something I just got the same string I already got while checking integrity s...

Re: "Verify your ISO image" instructions for Windows users

I figured out my mistake, in my confusion... I think I had looked at too many directions at the same time. For one of them it had said to just copy the file name, which is what I did hear but that left off the .iso. So that was my problem. That checks out. Now to try your suggestion for authenticati...

Re: "Verify your ISO image" instructions for Windows users

I had given you a link to a very specific post of mine in this topic:
Which I tried, and must have done incorrectly. While putting in the path or something... says it can't find the file specified.

Re: "Verify your ISO image" instructions for Windows users

I don't think I was expecting things to be so complicated. I started a topic about the cygwin that the verify page suggests using if you're on windows... because when I tried to install it, my AV said it was a bad idea. And the directions for authentication few right over my head. Someone replied an...

authenticating?

So, I'm going through the steps of putting mint on my wife's laptop... got the ISO downloaded finally and plan to create a bottable usb... following the directions it says to check the integrity and authenticity... the directions there are confusing to anyone that hasn't done that before or understa...

a question on upgrading

Well, I am still not running linux yet... Seeing how windows 7 will be missing updates at the beginning of next year, I need to figure that out sooner than later and, hope to build a machine sometime in the next few months. We'll see. But that's not why I'm on here today. My wife's laptop hasn't wor...

Re: I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

I think most of us have made decisions that we later regret. It's called life. do what you want, but please don't waste our time anymore with unproductive useless doubts. These are not the worst comments I've ever gotten and I'm not crying or anything... But, I did explain from the get go how diffi...

Re: I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

I don't understand the OP's need, or presumed need to wait for some new computer to try Linux, just do it. I'll try to answer that better this time I guess. I never said I was waiting on a new computer to try linux... in fact, quite the opposite. My last response was trying to explain that to some ...

Re: I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

Thanks for the thoughts so far everyone. I still have to go through and read them all more carefully but I wanted to point out one thing. Several people mention testing it out on my machine to make sure it works with all the hardware. I need to clarify, I'm going to build a new machine but do not ha...

I wonder - stay with Windows - switch to Linux Mint?

I wonder if I can be convinced to REALLY give this a go... So, it's a long story. I've been a windows user for a long, long time. 3.1, 95, 98, XP, now on 7 but have kids with laptops using 8.1 and 10. I've been putting off building a new pc for a while now and, I'm going to get it done this year... ...

looking for a solid wysiwyg editor

Long, long story... I'll skip it for now. I'm THINKING about trying linux... I may start another conversation on that... but, Please be patient with me. I have a real hard time making decisions. I've searched this and searched this and am still making a few comparisons but, nothing is great or perfe...
