Re: [SOLVED] Is there a GUI desktop frontend to git that you'd recommend?
I patiently read all the chapters pertaining to the basics of using git in the "Git Pro" eBook here . I've been using git just on the command line for about 2 years (for version-controlling and publishing a jekyll website of mine). So that's why I could pick up git-cola quickly just now. G...

I've got the basics to work (adding/staging a file, committing, and pushing).
So yeah, awesome recommendation on git-cola.

[SOLVED] Is there a GUI desktop frontend to git that you'd recommend?
Hello. I’m not referring to web-based git frontends here, such as github, or gitlabs. I’m talking about when you have a local git repository, and you just want a simple gui for git (stand-alone, integrated into an IDE, a text editor, or maybe even a file browser such as nemo ), which can minimally d...

Quickly cutting out video clips, but keeping same resolution, codec, format, etc.
- Vidcutter 6.0 worked poorly for me. It didn't make the cuts where I very specifically asked it to. The end result had the cut done, but was several seconds out, and didn't even remove the portion I tried to exclude . Terrible! :( - LosslessCut (3.0.1) wouldn't even launch whatsoever. The AppImage ...

Re: VirtualBox install only has 32-bit options?
In My ASUS Gaming mATX Tuf Mobo BIOS, I had to go into:
Advanced -> CPU Configuration -> SVM Mode, change from Disabled to Enable.
Solved for me!

Re: VirtualBox install only has 32-bit options?
BTW: I installed the "Oracle VM Virtualbox Extension Pack" 6.0.12 as well, then restarted the computer, and that didn't help either.

[SOLVED] VirtualBox install only has 32-bit options?
I've got this problem myself. I've got an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, which is definately 64-bit. In the BIOS settings, there are no options for enabling or disabling VT-x and AMD-V. cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep -E "vmx|svm" ...indeed shows "svm" is there. I've installed Linux Mint MATE 19....

Your directions to install ffmpeg-4 worked like a charm. Much appreciated! I just tested youtube-dl out, and it works again.

FFMPEG how install from official PPA
My ffmpeg is still version 3.4.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1. The FFmpeg site currently has directions for installing the latest version in Debian and Ubuntu, but not Linux Mint. I'm guessing I should follow their directions with respect to Ubuntu 18.04? But FFmpeg lists no directions specific to Ubuntu 18.04 ...

Nextcloud Integration
Please cover Nextcloud integration with Linux Mint, especially as a possible alternative to Samba (but out in the cloud, with SSL-encryption). Here you can currently get a free Nextcloud account, to try out on a Beta basis: https://operationtulip.com/ Here's how to mount an SSL-encrypted WebDAV shar...

Re: MS loves Linux? What proof would YOU like to see of that?
Who cares what Microsoft does? We have something better. Microsoft can and regularly does make our lives hell (though various breakages in compatibility), so I think we need to care at least that much. For example, Microsoft invented UEFI, then aggressively pushed all motherboard manufact...

MS loves Linux? What proof would YOU like to see of that?
Microsoft has made several gestures of goodwill towards the Linux community recently. They would like for us all to forget their past of loathing Linux, and fighting Linux tooth and nail pretty much to keep it off PCs. What would YOU like to see Microsoft do, in order for them to prove that their ne...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
This is very good post and an excellent point. Linux needs to heed this warning. Thanks! I personally feel that Nextcloud is the answer. I just installed a new Nextcloud 14 server, and it only took me two days (installing from a snap, on a rented $5 US/month VPS server with only 1GB of RAM, which i...

Re: Linux encryption and dual booting 'alongside' windows
I too am a fan of "one OS per hard drive". I never dual-boot with Windows any longer, it's just too much of a risk of problems down the road. I have one Linux Mint 19 install taking up my laptop's entire SSD. I also have Ubuntu Mate 18.04 installed on a good-quality USB stick (Sandisk Ultr...

Re: Linux on a tablet
The reason why Linux works well on laptops and desktops is because the AMD64 architecture (and other related chips commonly found in PC's) are far more consistent and well-supported across all the PC vendors. The ARM world is way different. It's a nightmare for Linux (ignoring Android here) to gain ...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?
Check your phone settings - the USB configuration may well be hidden in Developer Settings. Which in turn you may need to enable. Go to About Phone is settings and repeatedly tap on Build Number (7 times). You want MTP to be the protocol. I turned on the developer mode, and in Settings -> Developer...
