Re: Programs Stay Open On Panel

Try Zoom in openSUSE, Fedora, etc - all the Gnome distros. Zoom or any other app in process never appear on the panel. If they do, an extension easily cuts this process off. One problem solved, at least. Telegram is solved. I found a box in the settings to deactivate that removes the system tray icon.

Programs Stay Open On Panel

I'm not sure how to language this, but I'll try. When I open programs like Steam, Zoom, and Telegram, an icon for the program appears in the system monitor area of the panel. When I close the programs, the icons stay on the panel, indicating the program is not closed, but rather paused. I have to cl...

Re: Brother Printer- Ubuntu Distros Mismatch

But try to get a Brother printer-scanner installed and running in any of the 'buntu's.... forget it. Well, I have a Brother printer/scanner which installs and works perfectly in Linux Mint 20, which is almost identical to Ubuntu 20.04 "under the hood". Same in Mint 19.x (Ubuntu 18.04). Would you be...

Brother Printer- Ubuntu Distros Mismatch

I have a Brother HL-L2390DW Printer-Scanner. It installs like a breeze in over 10 other distros, including deb's, rpm's, arch's, and solus, I've personally tried, including Linux Mint LMDE Debbie, which I run now. But try to get a Brother printer-scanner installed and running in any of the 'buntu's....

Re: Emoji Applet?

I tried that and found it only a partial fix. I was only able to put it on the clipboard within the browser, but not, say, onto a LibreOffice document.

Did I not set it up correctly?

Re: youtube-dl

Youtube-dlg.deb gives you the gui version of youtube-dl.

Click on the following file I found on pkgs.org and the download prompt will come up:

Emoji Applet?

After getting frustrated with multiple Gnome distros having chronic little nuisance malfunctions, I have returned to LM after some time away - seeking stability and ease of use. Of course, LM has this in spades. Question: One thing I can't find - an applet that puts a pallet of emoticons before me t...

Re: youtube-dl

Go to pkgs.org.

Under the Ubuntu section, download 3 files, python-twodict.....deb, youtube-dl.deb and youtube-dlg.deb. Install in that order.

Then you have a gui to run the program from.

Much easier to work with.

Re: Software to download music from Youtube

Youtube-dl is a program that does this. Downloads can only be done by running the program via command line. There is an accompanying program, youtube-dlg (youtube-dl-gui for rpm and arch) that provides the needed (for most people anyway) gui to practically use the program. Here's some install instru...

Best scanning program there is. It is easily manually added to the Mint menu.

HPLIP Out Of Date

Current repo HPLIP: Ver 3.16.3. Most current HPLIP from HP: Ver. 3.17.6. I just purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 all-in-one printer, a year old model. I bought it because HP said it was a "full" LInux support model. Mint's HPLIP did not recognize it, so installed the recommended guesstimate driver...

Re: Windows comedy hour

IMHO Windows and Linux are built for different reasons and for different customers. Windows is built for marketing people and is designed to do what those people would like it to do: collect information about users. Linux is built to do what the user wants it to do. Both are successful so-- take yo...

Re: ? Your first "Meeting" With Linux ?

Around 2001 or so I started reading about this thing called Linux in magazines on the book store rack. My wife was complaining constantly about her Windows computer. Then I ran across a disk for something called Lindows. It would later become LInspire, until Ubuntu's birth put it out of business. An...

Thanks. It's no big deal to install the .deb and I already have. I just wanted to, I guess, suggest it. No biggie.

Speedcrunch

The repo version of my favorite LInux format calculator, Speedcrunch, is version 0.10. The current version is 0.12.

Lots of feature improvements between the two.

Can this be updated?

Re: ever spread the word to non-techy ppl?

I've converted several people. As for me I remote into my hospital-based desktop, it's electronic medical record, another cloud based electronic medical record, and other remote sites in its sphere. Despite the hospital being eyeball-deep in bed with Micro$oft, they all work great with Linux.

Open System Settings. Click on Hot Corners. Set one of the hot corners as "show all workspaces." Close settings.

When ever the cursor goes to that corner all your workspaces will appear.

I want to obliterate XP from the Acer and make Mint-Mate the host OS/distro.
How nice it is to see XP and obliterate in the same breath!
