Re: Will we get an alexa or cortana?

Possible scenario: Sitting in living room listening to / discussing news item and "AI" launches a search including undesireable terms. Far as I know it won't do that. Cause they're designed to even be able to tell what you are saying to them, when music is playing. Or other loud noises. It ...

The IBM purchase of Red hat

I didn't see another thread related to this topic, so if there is one, please post me a link to it. If not, I just have a couple of questions that maybe someone here can answer. I may not have always used linux, but its safe to say that I've always been a fan. And thus, I find this news to be kind o...

Re: Has anyone considered BSD

So now I have to ask about abandoned packages. In BSD, would it even matter? It would still work, right? So what would be the problem? I mean, if we look at a different OS, say Windows Xp. There must be warehouses full of abandon ware for that OS. But, you could still load it up and run it if you wa...

Has anyone considered BSD

I have been looking at OpenBSD lately, just because I like looking at operating systems. Kind of a "just for fun" thing. And apparently there are several things that it does better than linux. However, I question whether that even matters. At what point does it stop mattering which OS is technically...

Re: Well I give up

Everybody is constantly installing, reinstalling, formatting, etc. All you ever hear about is people distro hopping and trying out this or that. I know here come the exceptions who've never done it but its pretty common.

Re: Will we get an alexa or cortana?

Yeah my wife bought an Echo from amazon but it was agreed that unless she is using it, it stays unplugged in the back room. No kids, so it just sits there for weeks or months at a time with no power going to it. When the Mycroft 2 comes out I'll get that and trash Alexa. As for usefulness though, I'...

Thanks! I will follow that one closely. :)

I'll buy one if I can at this point. Looks like they're working on version 2.

Re: Well I give up

I did say I can't complain because its free. But I was hoping that after all this time, some team had just knocked it out of the park. That happens with stuff from time to time. Not frequently, but it does happen. I just love the windows environment. I even saw a video where someone put it on linux!...

Will we get an alexa or cortana?

Will the open source types ever get a cortana or an alexa? Not those specifically, but our own variant that isn't a scumbag. Something that would pass the turing test, but isn't just spying on you as hard as it possibly can. Something open source, so that everyone can check the code and verify that ...

Re: Well I give up

Doesn't seem like you can multi quote on this forum You can. Seems like you jumped to conclusions, instead of asking. (I think I see a pattern here.) Ah, so like linux you can make it work if you really want to. But its unlike like the other forums, and not intuitive. (I think I see a pattern here)...

Re: Well I give up

[/quote] Begs the question, If windoze is so "polished" why are you looking at Linux, any derivative? Sorry, I will disagree, that Linux is not as polished as Windwoes. It is waaaaay more stable, doens't require the high maintenance of windoze and, with a bit (a little bit, mind you) of effort, can ...

Well I give up

I'm not sure if there is any point to making this thread, other than I think everyone should talk about their experiences, so that the main issues that tend to bug everyone, get out into the public consciousness and may someday be fixed. These are just my experiences. That out of the way, be warned ...

Firefox themes don't work despite being same version as W10?

This one seems a bit odd to me. So I have Firefox on Windows 10, and on Linux Mint. And its the same version. Both Quantum, both version 63.0.3 But if I'm using Windows, I can install black themes such as Deep Dark, or Nasa Night launch. I love these themes, they make firefox so much more enjoyable ...

Re: Larger menu icons?

Thank you for the help, it is much appreciated. I may end up using one of those if I can get it in black or dark grey, whatever the oem mint color is for the menu panel these days. I really like all the dark colors, I find it much easier on the eyes. But ugh, I've been having sizing issues for 3 day...

Re: Make window control buttons bigger

Well it I think it has something to do with the size of the window border/s. Do you know how to make the window border at the top of every window bigger? I may be able to use that to find a fix.

Larger menu icons?

I need to make the menu icons larger in my newly installed Mint Cinnamon 19. They're tiny, and quite difficult to tell what they actually are. Some of my issues with everything being too small may be from me having a 1440p monitor. But so far I've been able to remedy them. Except for the tiny menu i...

Re: Make window control buttons bigger

Take a look at some additional Window Borders themes here - two of them are 'Big Buttoned' versions of the stock Mint-Y borders. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=272414 Do you happen to know of any others like that? I used the Big Buttoned ones for about 3 hours. Then suddenly... ...

Re: Make window control buttons bigger

Thanks guys, much appreciated! With that I'm sure I'll get it figured out. Probably just end up installing that black theme with the big circular buttons. Instead of creating new threads for my next few questions, I figure I'll just ask them here. Over at easylinux, I read this about ubuntu and mint...

Make window control buttons bigger

Hi all, new here. I'm attempting to switch from windows to linux, been using windows since the early xp days. I just installed Mint Cinnamon last night, version 19 iirc. Thus far I've been able to tailor everything to my liking, except for the window control buttons in the top right of every window....
