Re: GRUB Seems To Be Missing From SSD

It looks like it is on the EFI partition (sda1) but the laptop doesn't seem to be booting from it despite it being UEFI. I'm not sure why it's not seeing it then.

Re: GRUB Seems To Be Missing From SSD

I just got a chance to try it and it doesn't seem to be working. I even tried using --force, but then it still fails to update-grub saying something about cow. Here's a log of the terminal commands: mint@mint:~$ sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt mint@mint:~$ sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot mint@mint:~$ sudo ...

Re: GRUB Seems To Be Missing From SSD

Thanks for the reply. I was just using Mesa drivers but if it's easier then I guess I can just reinstall it. It's all just a matter of setting up some programs again.

GRUB Seems To Be Missing From SSD

Sorry to bother you people, but I've decided that I might as well put the SATA SSD into my laptop and just use my NVMe in my PC since my laptop is so slow with a HDD. I can just make a couple of partitions on my NVMe and dual boot just in case do need Windows for certain games/programs though I'd pr...

Re: Need Help With Compiling Wine From Source

It's basically wine staging but with the ability to enable gallium nine. I assume whatever is happening, the gallium 9 patch must not be getting applied properly. I'll have to try double check and recompile since I don't think an older version that the current one exists online that has the patch pr...

Re: Need Help With Compiling Wine From Source

Would that include the gallium 9 d3d9 patch? I heard you can only apply the patch to the source before compiling and I can only find 3.18 patched in a PPA.

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

Oh feck, that sucks. I can buy that CPU cheap enough here from a store called CeX and just build a computer provided I could even find a socket 1155 motherboard to put it in. Aside from that though I think your laptop is close enough to being the same as mine so it should do fine on some of the ligh...

Need Help With Compiling Wine From Source

Hi there. I'm sorry if this has been discussed already, but the newest version of Wine d3d9 staging (3.18) has sprite issues in Rayman Origins, but I'm pretty sure it was working fine on 3.15 d3d9 staging. I can't download the older version anywhere, so I took the 3.15 source code, the staging patch...

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

The i5 2500k isn't a bad CPU at all even to this day. I used to have an i7-2600 and to this day that's still pretty amazing and they can be had second hand for about €65 :P

Re: Hello From Ireland

Hello Mick-Cork :) That's pretty amazing, I didn't know the founder lived in Ireland. That's pretty cool to know :D But yeah I'm just trying to make the games work on it for the sake of it and to try stick to it 100%. I tried to use Linux a few times and I felt like I was limited, but now that I hav...

Re: Hello From Ireland

Hi deepakdeshp :)

I also used Mint on an Atom years ago, but that was MATE I was using back then and I knew nothing about Linux.

I didn't even notice I typed xcfe instead of XFCE

Re: Hello From Ireland

Hi JerryF. I wonder if it would be worth using xcfe on my laptop then. The laptop has a HDD but if I'm making the complete switch and staying on Linux then I could put one of the SSD's into the laptop. I'll still have the NVMe SSD running Mint on my desktop then.

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

Well I haven't done extensive testing on my laptop yet and my PC is way better, but for free games it will run Team Fortress 2 and I'm fairly sure it should be able to play Warframe assuming they'll work under Linux. I have to try out some of the games and find out what works since I'm still fairly ...

Re: Is my system good enough for gaming?

My HP laptop has an A10-5750M with Dual Graphics and it's just as ^ says, even that's only good for older 3D games or 2D titles. The other problem is that the drivers are really outdated and if I use Mint with the Mesa drivers, it seems to only use the APU and not the dedicated GPU. It's becoming a ...

Re: Hello From Ireland

Hi Tandrias. Yeah that's totally true. There's also something satisfactory about getting non native games to run properly. I'm glad I have found this place also and I would love to get everything I want working properly then also ditch Windows. I think now is as good a time as any with how much bett...

Re: Hello From Ireland

Thanks @phd21 :)

I'm also using the Cinnamon environment by the way. I chose that one because the Mint download site literally says if you're not sure which one, most people choose cinnamon :P
