Re: What Mint releases were your best and worst experiences?

Mint 17.3 -> the best I used.
Mint 18.3 -> Good, but I only installed it after 17.3 ended the support.
Mint 19.3 -> In use, in test. Some problems at the beginning but shows improvements with the updates.

Si entiendo correctamente su pregunta, la respuesta es no.
Por lo general, el software incluido, en este caso, en paquetes ".deb", no permite al usuario elegir dónde se instalarán.

Re: Hard Drive space at different total used?

It is a question of "binary prefixes" and "decimal prefixes". Decimal prefixes ("Kilo", "Mega", "Giga" .....) were used in computing for a long time to refer to powers of 1024 and not 1000. Thus it was said, in informatics, that 1 "KiloByte (KB)...

Re: How to translate firefox.desktop string "Open a New Private Window"

If you have not edited the launcher or moved it to another location, it will be in (real name of the launcher, do not consider the translated name that appears in the user interface): /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop You can edit it with a text editor, but the respective language pack must be...

Are you sure that the package / program name is "qtox"?
I searched and didn't find it in the Mint 19.3 repositories.

https://forums.linuxmint.com/download/file.php?id=67742&t=1 The figure clarifies. There is no media on the device (card). Either the card burned or is an SDHC or SDXC type and your reader may not support them. If it is not a counterfeit card. See, for example: https://www.tecmundo.com.br/cartoe...

The external drive is formatted in NTFS ... Start Windows (same or newer XP). Insert the problem unit. Make a note of the letter that represents the drive (suppose "d"). Open a command prompt and type: chkdsk d: /v/f/x If chkdsk is unable to lock the drive, a message appears asking if you...

I don't have Cinnamon or Nemo. Sorry I can't help.
In Xfce, this is configured with 2 mouse clicks, in the plugin ("Locations") for the panel.

Re: Locked out of LInux...password issue!

There may be a bug in the "Users and Groups" program. I've never used this program, I can't say anything. However, I assume that in it that the "password" functionality is only to change the password and is valid only for session login and not for system login. As you do not ment...

It takes 8 good wires to negotiate gig speeds .
Observation:
Although there are 8 wires and 8 contacts, only 4 are used.
Some cables, which are already ready, may have only 4 wires and 4 metallic contacts on the plugs.

Re: Desktop icons disappeared

I can't see how to recover the additional icons that you placed on the Desktop. Nor do you vaguely remember their names. You declare that no more icons appear on the Desktop, not even the standard icons. I believe the instructions in the post: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1972796#p19...
