Re: (SOLVED) blkid behavior has changed

Note:
On my Mint 18.3 XFCE 64-bit system, using blkid with sudo or no sudo is the same.
The file ".sudo_as_admin_successful" is an empty file with no content, zero bits.

Re: How to boot USB without BIOS USB boot support?

Hello since2019, Surely your 2007 core duo laptop, more modern than mine, boots from a usb stick or a memory card inserted, if applicable, into a usb adapter. Obviously the flash drive must be bootable. It will be recognized as a disc. Not as a hard drive, of course, but it will appear in the setup ...

Re: Starting hard drives during startup

In my computer I have several hard drives, but when I boot my computer, only the drive with the Linux system is started. The other drives which are used for storage have to be started manually. ...... The automatic mounting of file systems (volumes) on fixed hard disks at system startup could be de...

Re: usable RAM is less than I have

Probably a portion of physical memory is being used as cache memory. Post the following commands: sudo lshw -short -c memory free -lh To see what is being used as video memory see the output of the commands: cat /var/log/dmesg | grep Memory cat /dev/kmsg | grep Memory If one of the commands does not...

Re: Where is Grub?

The "/boot" and "/etc" folders are on the partition where Linux Mint is installed. I know that Grub is installed on this partition because I installed the system. The output of the very complicated command you entered was: /dev/sda: NO GRUB bc81 /dev/sda1: NO GRUB 7cc6 /dev/sdb: NO GRUB bc81 /dev/sd...

Where is Grub?

Consider a machine BIOS (no UEFI) and an MBR disk (no GPT). During the installation of Linux Mint we can choose where to install Boot Manager (Grub): - install to disk or - install on a partition In this case, as I installed the system, I know where I installed Grub. But if it wasn't for me who had ...

Re: directories in home folder owned by root <SOLVED>

But I see no relation to the hidden folders ".dbus" and ".gvfs". Why not? If those folders were created while the application was running as root then it's normal that the folders would have the same owner. Maybe more strange is that .dbus had to be recreated at all, that folder usually never gets ...

Re: directories in home folder owned by root <SOLVED>

Right assumption, but this has probably been caused by a bug. Or by previous misuse of sudo for a graphical application (by you). Installing a graphical application, probably Comodo antivirus, would explain the creation of the Desktop folder (owned by root) in my personal folder. But I see no relat...
