Re: HP all-in-one printer drivers

For what it's worth for you... I add my experience to your query. Before the installation: One HP Multifuction device where printer worked, but not the scanner One HP Printer which did not work. Both are relatively old. I installed HPLIP a couple of days ago (Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce), from the HPs Deve...

Re: [Solved] System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

Thanks for the tip! Always more to learn.
(In this case, however, all was frozen, so then I believe the only option is to wait until the system kill the process)

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

I close this topic as Solved. The root cause why the issue happened is not understood. Nor is any solution known how to eg repair. The issue is solved with the work-around; make a complete re-installation of Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce.

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

Conclusion: I have re-installed Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce. Tested simple-scan directly - it works again. The winding road from yesterday: 1) With Synaptic: I uninstalled simple-scan fully. Restarted. Installed simple-scan again. Restarted. Same issue as before: when I launch simple-scan, it try to start,...

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

Yes, that may absolutely be the way forward to go backward first. And the Thunar File manager states I have 15 GB free, which make sense considering what I have installed and data. Which deviates from the other analyse. By the way, GParted states my encrypted 27.7 GB partition is full; 0.0 free. I e...

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

No TimeShift on this drive, or any other backup. They are on an external drive. In my home directory I have two photos total 1.3 MB, 1 KB text file on desktop, nothing in trash,4.5 MB in Documents, 1 MB in Download, nothing in Music or Video. And only a few SW installed, like Deja-Dup, Gparted, Chro...

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

Ok, I see. Although I don't understand how that value should be understood in comparison to the next table (I need to learn Linux better): How come the 2nd command sudo df -Th then eg states home/henrik has 15G free ("ledigt" in Swedish)? Does the encryption confuse any command result? Furthermore, ...

Re: System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

I don't understand where you read my eMCC hard drive 32 GB is almost full? It has 15.1 GB free. No TimeShift or any other backup on that drive (it's on an external USB drive). Very little data at all (far less that 1 GB incl trash) and very few sw beside installation (I recently shifted from Cinnamo...

[Solved] System Out of memory - how to clear? simple-scan

Hi, I have trouble with the tool simple-scan. I executed one scanning and saved, no issue. I executed another one, but simple-scan stopped working when executing Save. I suspect this was because of the relatively large file and I only have 2 GB RAM. However, after several re-boots, simple-scan does ...

Re: Why does boot menu state ubuntu instead of Mint?

Thanks for explanations and "warnings" if also installing Ubuntu or any Ubuntu-based distribution as dual boot.

Regarding Secure boot, I have needed to disable to have Mint to boot up.

I consider my question as solved. Thanks.

[SOLVED] Why does boot menu state ubuntu instead of Mint?

My Boot menu states "ubuntu" instead of Mint. It was the case both when I installed Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon, and later when I changed installation and switched to Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce. Not any important question, more out of curiosity. I will most likely not install Ubuntu on same machine, which poss...

Re: [Solved] How to boot Linux Mint on Lenovo ideapad 100S-14IBR?

Good to hear that you GlennD also solved and got the Mint installation working! I'm not sure on this statement: But because you had Boot prio: UEFI first, I would guess that your Mint also was installed in UEFI mode. I had Boot mode: UEFI, (ie no Legacy support at all). I believe, if you are interes...

Re: How to verify ISO images on macOS?

Oki, thanks N3wb. But I actually solved with a work around: I used a trusted Live-CD Linux, and did the Authenticity check that way. By that; I didn't need to install a new program. Pity the macOS Terminal does not have a command to do it directly! Although I haven't tested your solution for macOS; ...

Re: How to boot Linux Mint on Lenovo ideapad 100S-14IBR?

I have solved my issue with a work around: My first installation was done in BIOS (legacy) mode. Now I changed to EFI mode in the Boot setup. It also required that I disabled "Secure boot" in the Boot setup. When I installed Mint 19 in EFI mode, it worked without any problem to boot and use Linux Mi...

[Solved] How to boot Linux Mint on Lenovo ideapad 100S-14IBR?

I have installed Mint 19 on my Lenovo ideapad 100S-14IBR. I selected to take away discovered partition (maybe that is the Lenovo WIndows/recovery partition?), as well as everything installed. I had Windows 10, 64 bit, originally. Installation went smoothly. Only the issue I cannot boot Mint. When I ...

Re: Failed to boot

Thanks @BG405 for sharing your knowledge. I was not aware that Windows and macOS couldn't recognize the "Linux part" of the USB. I have now reflashed the USB stick with same Mint 19, and secondly I changed the settings/way I boot this LiveStick on my computer (for some reason I do not know, differen...

Re: Failed to boot

I should add one comment, becuase I made the assumption my USB stick was not written properly. I actually do not know what the live DVD/stick should look like. I assumed it should contain more than a efi folder, I think that one contained two files, and totally of 2-3 MB size, that was all. Surely a...

Re: Failed to boot

BG405, but shouldn't Etcher work also on release 19? It would be a pity to try an older version instead. At least, before I try to burn/flash 18.3, I hope I can recover the USB stick first, it's expensive if I loose another one if Etcher fails with 18.3 as well. As for now, I do not know if I failed...

Re: Failed to boot

Hi, I have same issue to create with Etcher, flash, a USB stick with linuxmint-19-cinnamon-64bit-v2.iso. I used Etcher 1.4.5 on macOS Mojave 10.14. I still try to manage to recover my USB stick to be usable again. There is at least one thread on Etcher user forum with same problem with Mint 19. Henrik
