Re: Notification of new release?

personally, i think that is as goofy as it can get for a way to get updated to a new release! i only found out about this on total accident. i know mint doesn't like to be obnoxious with pop up alerts and stuff, but that is one pop up or something similar i would like to see! I don't like popups be...

Re: mint just shutdown

maybe a dumb suggestion but are you on a laptop with a bad/weak battery? all 4 of my laptops have old batteries that say fully charged but only last 10 minutes, tops, and then computer shuts down instantly!

Re: Does Bleachbit really works?

i used it on a few of my machines for a good while. it never broke the os on any of them, but i can't really say it did much either, imo. i simply remove what ever shows up in synaptic under auto remove, to keep system clean enough. linux isn't nearly like windows where it saves every single microsc...

Re: Which version should be used instead of Windows Vista?

Personally I can't see much point in worrying about the ability to return to an Operating System that is 2 years past its' end of life. I would reformat the disk & replace with (your choice version of) Linux - after first making sure the computer operated with it using a live version. There are ple...

Re: How well Tessa run on old Inspiron B130?

your only choice is xfce, period. anything else will be slower than molasses! definitely install that other gig of memory too.

to do the simple things you say you will be using the computer for, it should run well enough to not make you want to throw it through a brick wall! LOL

Re: First post - Warranty voided if Mint installed on new laptop?

just download an iso of windows 10, burn to disc, and save it for when and if you need to reinstall windows 10. windows 10 installs quite quickly actually. even without getting all the required updates to the system just tell company you sent it back to that you your system messed up and you did a r...

Re: Windows Update Nixes Mint

This is a story often heard. I do not understand why people insist in setting up two OS on the same drive when it is so liable to give problems and if the drive dies you are doubly screwed. The cost of disk space these days is so low that it is not worth trying to save a penny. Just install each OS...

Re: Brave Browser

I've never used Brave. I just stick to Firefox, Chromium, Opera and Vivaldi. I also have Pale Moon and Slimjet but I never use them. I'll give Midori another try when they release a modern stable version. IMO, opera and vivaldi are lousy browsers. have used them both and removed them. started using...

Re: forgot to Verify Linux ISO

have only ever verified a linux distro one time and that was just to see how it's done. don't do torrents as i've never found that to be faster than directly from the website. find nearest server and poof, done in a couple minutes on my connection.

Re: Isn't "newbie" a warning to new users?

... Let me tell you that I am a mathematically educated person who is not frightened by complexity, if it is worth my time. I do not believe that spending my time to make up for the unwillingness of Mint developers to spend their time to offer a good user guide is worth the effort. ... If you had b...

Re: Downloading via mirrors vs Torrent: Which is best?

torrents are slower than molasses for me so i prefer the direct download. have NEVER had any kind of error when downloading anything, ever!

personally, can't stand downloading torrents of any kind anyway. always thought that was a stupid way to download things. that's just my opinion though. ;)

Re: slow shut down

going to mark this mark this topic as solved, although not absolutely certain it is, but after most recent kernel update i got for it today, it shut down lickity split, like it's supposed to. if it goes back to taking a long time to shut down, i'll just slap another distro on it.

thank you

Re: slow shut down

wasn't really asking for help, per se, was asking if anyone thought, or knew, if the LMDE version of mint goes through a different process of shutting down so as not to have this issue on that laptop. as i said, never had this issue when using any other variation of linux. have also had straight up ...
