Re: AV for linux mint 19.3?

if you must have an av on your mint installation, a quick google search show these as best ones. i have heard of all of them being mentioned here before in other similar topics. https://www.safetydetectives.com/best-antivirus/linux/ personally, i have never used an av on my mint installs. don't tran...

Re: Sould i remove Adobe Flash Player?

feel free to remove it if you have no need for it. remove it through synaptic is easiest. just do a search for adobe flashplayer. of course, most browsers automatically either block it or ask to activate it, so it's not a big thing, no matter what. you can set it to allow, block or ask to activate u...

well, a few days later, the shutdown problem came back. An error occurs when the system is running for more than 30 minutes.
that stinks! :(

Re: upgrade Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana”

@missmoondog It's because a new LTS version of Ubuntu came out recently (Ubuntu 20), and whenever that happens Mint releases an LTS version based on that. LTS versions come out roughly every 2 years. Previous Ubuntu LTS version (18) came out mid 2018 and is supported until some point in 2022. Here ...

All versions of Mint are long time support versions.
I don't really understand the question why... what is it you are asking?
oh, heck! didn't know that! there's the first thing i learned today. always happy to learn things. :)

Re: System freeze: A bug or slow laptop?

I have reduced swapping from 60 to 10, as per the speed improvement suggestions. swapping would've been my suggestion also. how did reducing it work for you? i followed that same suggestion you did on a machine similar to yours except a little more memory and haven't had issues. i didn't have any i...

Re: Too many updates

What's your objection to updates? I can only speak for myself but the new 5.X kernels have a known issue that freeze the computer and I am using kernel 4.15 and this forces me to go into grub each time I boot and select the kernel I want to use which is a royal PITA. https://forums.linuxmint.com/vi...

Can you use Timeshift to go back to before you made changes?
or, simply remove that kernel from within update manager

Re: Intel Graphics Cards on Linux Mint

shouldn't be any need to download drivers. just check in your driver manager to switch drivers or update them.

i guess i would have to ask why you would want to switch? using the onboard graphics will use system memory where as the nvidia card will use it's own memory.

Re: Linux Mint on old Gateway Desktop

any of the main mint downloads will fit on a dvd. can you burn an iso to dvd? might take a bit longer to install, but should work. does almost sound like not properly creating bootable usb drive. rufus is pretty good at it and quite easy. should work. personally, i'd recommend mate or xfce for that ...

Re: battery life

wow! that seems really odd as any time i've ever dual booted, linux lasted longer on battery than windows did. haven't had a dual boot in a good while now although i did try a dual boot on a new desktop not to long ago, obviously that didn't have battery to use.
