I have a network that connects with 3 NAS drives: (a) new repurposed PC, (b) older Lenovo NAS, (c) the problem older PC repurposed as NAS running 20.1 Xfce. All three can be seen in Ci...

NAS and external monitor

Hiyall,
I have a PC that has bin repurposed as a NAS running Mint 20.1 Xfce. My problem is not being able to see the contents of the drives in my Cinnamon laptop network without connecting a monitor to the NAS.
Your advice will be gratefully received.

Re: Update problem

Sleeper,
I did that but as I thought, it didn't help. HOWEVER I left it for an hour, came back and updated for a third time and it worked! Salutary lesson; don't be too hasty.
This query is closed as the second question belongs in 'Hardware'.
Thanx

Hiyall, I have three computers running 20.1 Xfce. Two of them have no issues. One (a desktop) is repurposed as a NAS. It has 2 issues: I perform update maintenance monthly. I tried today and received the attached message. The other problem is not being able to see the contents in my Cinnamon laptop ...

Intranet

Hiyall, I have had a nightmare of a time configuring my interconnectivity. I have 3 NAS drives and Win7+Mint20 Cinnamon (dual-boot). How do I configure the network so that the OSs can 'see' the NASs and transfer to and from WITHOUT connecting to the internet? I think what I want is called an 'intran...

NordVPN and Laptop part2

I lose connectivity with 3 NAS drives in Mint 20 Cinnamon even though connectivity remains in Win7 (dual boot). Nord helpdesk says that this is a 'known issue' which they are working on. My question may be naiive however, if I asked my IT guy to set up the networking so that the NAS drives are NEVER...

Re: NordVPN and Laptop

KMan, Thanks for the advice. I will take it up with Nord. However of greater significance, I asked my IT networking person to create a system where neither the 3 NASs nor the paths from Mint and Win7 to the 3 NASs (on 'Everyday') would be seen by the outside world. If he has done this correctly why ...

NordVPN and Laptop

Hiyall,
For anyone willing and able to help, you will find my laptop details in my signature below. I also have 3 NAS drives connected. I also use NordVPN.
Whenever Nord changes something, I lose connectivity with NAS drives. If I go into Win7 they all work perfectly with Nord on!
What can I do?

[CLOSED NOT SOLVED] Lenovo 7" tablet

Hiyall,
I have a Lenovo 7" tablet (TB7104F) 2018 currently collecting dust. Is it worth considering installing Mint, other Linux OS or even a mini like Porteus or Puppy? I'm sick of cleaning it without it have done a decent day's work in two years.

[SOLVED] Two factor authentication security

Hiyall,
I just watched a TV show about hacking and I'm now totally frightened. I have little sensitive data and even less money however it was a wake-up call. Both experts said that 'two factor authentication' is the best first step.
Can someone point me at software that is applicable to Mint?

Re: What am I missing?

Moem,
I assume their motive was to convert me to their particular religion. I'm content with Mint and will find other ways to either make it faster or convert it to a door stop!
