Re: FYI : YouTube blocking yt-dlp

Hiyall,
Try this.

sudo wget https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releas ... oad/yt-dlp -O /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp

sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp

Then just do: yt-dlp -U to upgrade to latest.

It works for me.

Re: yt-dlp - specialised help from Pjotr

Hiyall, I found Pjotr's instructions that I wisely copy/pasted into a text file and then forgot! sudo wget https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/yt-dlp -O /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp Now I can use "yt-dlp -U" and it works perfectly. Thank...

Re: NTFS as /home partition

Why complicate your life?
Many members including myself, have successfully bin using Virtualboxes for years. What you want to do defies the reality. NTFS simply doesn't work with Linux. The next best is dual booting which is less stable than Virtualbox.

Re: NTFS as /home partition

Use Oracle VM Virtualbox to install Windows and get the version from the Oracle website. The one in the program manager is always too old.

[SOLVED] yt-dlp - specialised help from Pjotr

Hi Pjotr,
You previously gave me a way to update yt-dlp. OP's help have not worked. I searched the forums for your post unsuccessfully. Please kindly repeat the instructions or simply send me a link to what you did before.

Handbrake

Hiyall, I have thousands of videos that I want to transcode to mp4. At the top of the Handbrake window it shows an 'Add to queue" icon and above that, a Queue dropdown menu. However both say that the file will overwrite the previous one. How do I get many queued so I don't need to sit here for ...

Re: Printer recommendation for LMDE

Hi kenj66 , Take my experience for what it's worth. In 30 years of running printers from my computer there has always been a problem with the major brands. Either it's driver issues or it's being constantly being nagged to replenish the ink. Printer/scan quality was commensurate with price. The driv...

yt-dlp update from Pjotr

Hi Pjotr,
Two issues;
1. When I try to update yt-dlp -U in the Terminal it tells me that I need 'sudo apt...' which doesn't work! or I don't know what correctly follows 'sudo apt'
2. Better still, can you please instruct me on how I can use 'yt-dlp -U'?

There's nothing bad about how Cinnamon looks or works. It simply works and works well.

Re: Will Blu-ray be supported by 2050? - dangers of digital obsolescence

Gee, I haven't heard the digital v analogue debate for at least 30 seconds! If you want top quality sound, you need to spend big money. Only then can you hear the difference between analogue and digital. This is why car races contain million dollar cars and a team of engineers rather than granny in ...

Re: [SOLVED] HDD explanation

Alex,
Thanks but mostly doesn't concern me. My backedup stuff HDDs are on 2 pc NASs which are turned off most of the time. When I want to see/hear something I simply fill a USB stick and put it in the loungeroom computer.

Re: Will Blu-ray be supported by 2050? - dangers of digital obsolescence

Hi Guys, I have a slightly different take on the subject. I own a very expensive turntable (relic of the '70s) and related equipment. There is no question in my mind that it is the best-sounding format however who today in their right mind would spend $10K for a turntable? Jeannie, the 'warmth' is a...

I found the correct answer.
The WD 'My Book' case automatically encrypts the internal data. I have found a friend with the identical case and am using his case to transfer the data to another drive formatted as EXT4.

Re: How to install Wine on Mint 21.2 - get messages about packages which can be upgraded

Hi JusticeDivisions, Welcome to the forum. Before you get involved with the intricacies of Wine, you need to know that installation of Wine exposes you to all the malware inherent in Windows. A superior way to use Windows is with an Oracle VM Virtualbox. It allows you to setup your Windows in a comp...

Rollyshed,
Is this an electronics experience contest?

Thanks for your explanation. It's only for my knowledge as I am getting another enclosure for it.
