Cannot access automounted read-only nfs-shares

I am trying to set up automount to access folders on my NAS. I kind of got it working, except I can't access the shares that I have defined read-only permissions to on the NAS. So, for dsbackup, I have set the nfs-permissions on the NAS to be read/write. For dsmusik, the nfs-permissions are read-onl...

Re: Automatic disk check broken?

Okay, I found the solution myself: The pass-parameter (last on on the line) in /etc/fstab should be something other than 0 - recommended 1 for / and 2 for all other partitions. This gave a new problem: On the "other" computer, it pauses at the splash screen, showing the progress of the che...

Automatic disk check broken?

I didn't notice this before now, but it seems I have a problem with automatic disk checking. I have two pc's. When I turned one of them on yesterday, it performed an automatic disk check, as it had reached its maximum mount count. And then I wondered - it's been a while since my other machine did th...

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20

Will this at any point be made an automated upgrade through the Update Manager?

Warpinator platforms?

Will Warpinator be available for other platforms to?

I mean, I can see the point of it, and I will probably use it once in a while transferring files to my laptop, but it would would be fantastic if I could also use it to transfer files to and from my Windows desktop!

Xsane preview not working

I have an Epson Perfection V39 scanner. I got it working - Simple Scan works fine. So I installed Xsane and ran into a weird problem. When trying to acquire a preview, I get "Could not start scanner: Operation was cancelled." But if I press Scan in the main window, it happily starts scanni...

Then check Nemo preferences - the settings for how to deal with executable text files are there.

Re: Mint no longer asks what to do with .sh files?

Okay, this i getting weird...

I tried poking around, and went as far as creating a new user to test - and on that user, it works! So it seems I have accidentally deleted something in the usersettings...

Re: Mint no longer asks what to do with .sh files?

Mmm - it's suspicious that inxi isn't reporting your deskstop environment so I think you may have lost a bit more than update manager. Well, I did get that from a ssh-connection to the box - didn't know that makes a difference? What does running this is the terminal output - it won't actually insta...

[Solved] Mint no longer asks what to do with .sh files?

I have three .sh files on my desktop. When I double-click them, I used to get a little box, asking if I wanted to view the file or run it in a terminal or background. Somewhere in the last week or two, that broke - now, when I double-click it, absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't ask anything, it ...

Brightness buttons not working

So I installed Mint 19.3 on my laptop, a Dell Latitude E6530. Unfortunately, the screen brightness is stuck on 100% - I cannot turn it down using the brightness buttons (Fn+UpArrow and DownArrow). Pressing them DOES change the contents of both /sys/class/backlight/dell_backlight/brightness and /sys/...

sudo password caching

A few questions about sudo and password caching: When sudo'ing something in the console, the password is cached for 15 minutes (i believe the default is). But, if after 10 minutes, i sudo something else, does that 15 minutes start over, or is it always counting from the password entry? Also, how do ...

Live USB gives "No such partition"

Just downloaded the newest .iso (64-bit Cinnamon), flashed it to a pendrive with Etcher and tried booting it - only to be greeted by error: no such partition Entering rescue mode grub rescue> From there, it seems I can do absolutely nothing! My laptop boots fine from the stick, so what is the problem?

Re: Audio dropouts playing dvds

I really doubted that would make any difference, but I changed it last night from the standard 300 to 10000. To my surprise, it actually fixed the problem. Thank you! :D

[Solved] Audio dropouts playing dvds

Got a weird problem here... On Mint 19 Cinnamon, I get audio dropouts playing dvds. VLC is configured to direct output (ALSA module and output "HDA Intel PCH, HDMI 0 Direct hardware device without any conversions"). Occasionally the sound drops out for a second or two. Oddly, this happens ...
