Re: No access to my external drive

After replacing /NewName with /bkup and executing this command:

Code: Select all

UUID=6492dfa9-dac9-4241-8c1c-288ba06f91c5 /media/bkup ext4 errors=remount-ro,noatime,user 0 2 to /etc/fstab
I still get the message "bash: /media/bkup: Is a directory" and file /etc/fstab doesn't change.

You added an f in front of 6492dfa9-dac9-4241-8c1c-288ba06f91c5
I suppose it's just a typo?

Re: No access to my external drive

So maybe Code should be something like this?: sudo umount -v /media/marco/6492dfa9-dac9-4241-8c1c-288ba06f91c5 sudo mkdir /media/NewName sudo mount -v /dev/sde6 /media/NewName sudo chown $USER:$USER /media/NewName/ where NewName is any name of my choosing? Re: No access to my external drive

Please let me clarify the mess I've made. My external drive has 3 partitions My Book - /dev/sde1 - ntfs - No problem, can read/write files TimeShift - /dev/sde5 - ext4 [no label] - /dev/sde6 - ext4 - The one I can't access So maybe Code should be something like this?: sudo umount -v /media/marco/649...

Mount /dev/sde6 then sudo chown $USER:$USER /mountpoint where /mountpoint is /media/mydrive i.e., wherever you mounted it.
Could /mountpoint be this?:
/media/marco/6492dfa9-dac9-4241-8c1c-288ba06f91c5
That's what I get when I click on the device "285 GB Volume"

Re: No access to my external drive

I don't want to bother you any longer, so I'll just shrink the partition and create a new one for all "non-TimeShift" things. So I did create a new logical ext4 partition /dev/sde6 and now have a drive icon on my desktop called "285 GB Volume" but I can't save any files to it. If there is somebody ...

Re: No access to my external drive

enter sudo -i in the terminal then cd /media/root/snapshots && ls -lh and you should see your files. This is what I got for two different owners (root and marco) of the "SnapShot" partition: root@marco-pc-taller:~# cd /media/root/SnapShots && ls -lh -bash: cd: /media/root/SnapShots: No such file or...

[SOLVED] No access to my external drive

My external drive "MyBook" had one big primary ntfs partition, so I reduced it and created a rev4 partition /dev/sde5. Then I set TimeShift to save its snapshots on sde5. Now I can't access sde5 to save other files. The "Disks" app shows sde5 as "Mounted at /media/root/snapshots". Does that mean Tim...

Great info, thank you Flemur!
Before jumping into the water, one more question:
After restoring GRUB as posted, will it still allow double boot (LM/Win7)?

Re: Problems resizing partitions after install

Ok, I have done some homework. No way to unmount sdc2 or 5, so I booted Mint from the installation CD. With GParted I expanded sdc5 (leaving it pending) and it worked just fine. What really worries me is the GRUB reinstall :!: 1. Can it be done from the distro CD ? Are the actions written to disk or...

Re: Problems resizing partitions after install

Then you'll have to reinstall grub because the physical location of the /boot directory in your "/" partition has moved. Check up on how to do that before you need to do it, because you won't be able to boot linux until you fix it. Is it ok if I use the Software Manager GUI to install Grub-pc after...

Re: Problems resizing partitions after install

This was the result: sdc1_reduced.png Then I booted Mint from the installation CD and launched GParted from it. Problem is I can't get GParted to expand sdc5 :( In the GParted help section it says something about the unallocated partition needing to be inside the logical partition. Thing is I can't ...

SOLVED Problems resizing partitions after install

I'm running out of space for my Mint OS, so I need to expand its partition. Initial config of my drives was as follows: sda.png sdb_respaldo.png sdc_exDiscoE.png There are two more drives which only have a single primary ntfs partition. Since I suppose sdc5 is the Mint partition and sdc1 a Windows o...

Re: How to resize partitions after install?

How might I go about allocating the partitions now (ideally without deleting any of the data on either partition)? Both partitions are mostly empty. Third, boot up Mint, run gparted, take a snapshot image of the hard disk and post here, so that other can take a look and provide suggestion on how to...

Re: Outdated HPLIP driver package for my HP 410 Printer

I did a quick look and found that there is one "410" printer that requires 3.18.7, called "HP Ink Tank Wireless 410". Will follow the suggestion of yertchuck trusting Timeshift as a fallback. So I did and it worked fine, at least for the printing capability of my HP ITW 410. Still missing the scann...
