Can't read Pdfs: Loading issue

I'm having an issue, I've re-installed Linux Mint Xfce Tessa and now I can't open pdf documents anymore, the only thing I see is a little sign at the top with the mention "loading" and I don't know what's happening. The pdf's size is no more than 500k. Any idea?

Re: Installing a tar.bz2 file

Thanks for your answer Flemur.
I finally managed to make it work thanks to you.
Indeed, it's not that difficult once you understand that you have to start the software directly from the file you've downloaded.
So thanks for your help

Re: Installing a tar.bz2 file

Thanks for your reply Actually, here is what they say: "Linux Download the tarball, extract the contents and run zotero from that directory to start Zotero. For Ubuntu, the tarball includes a .desktop file that can be used to add Zotero to the launcher. Move the extracted directory to a location of ...

Installing a tar.bz2 file

Hi I'm trying to install a software called Zotero. It's a tar.bz2 file and I was wondering if you knew clear simple steps to follow to install that particular file through the terminal. I've tried to use the software manager but I'm getting an error I've downloaded it from this website: https://www....

Re: Mint updates issue

Thanks both for answering my post You were right Coldboot. I checked and mine was set to download every 2 days. Thing is I didn't want to be bothered by downloads every hour when I was working and expected that the downloads would start right after boot. But I brought it down to one hour now and I b...

Mint updates issue

Hi everyone It's been months I haven't been on this forum and the reason for that is that I rarely encounter any issue on Mint. I can never say how peaceful my life has become since I've adopted Mint. There's just one little thing I can't seem to fix on my own and this is why I'm here trying to find...

Re: Virus protection question

Hi Mike-Linux-Mint, My first question is: What if you removed your password in the "Passwords and keys" folder, does that count? Why would anyone do that? And, that would not delete your system's root password. According to what I read, a firewall on Linux would be useless too since you're supposed...

Re: Virus protection question

How do you make sure that you don't surf as root? Is there anything to implement? No, just don't launch Firefox from a terminal with sudo. Furthermore, don't make your system less secure by installing antivirus: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/security.html#ID1.1 Cool! I never...

Re: Virus protection question

I'll second and third Catweazle but to make a point: One thing that makes linux especially more secure is that one is not normally working with admin/root privileges. That locks out a lot of malware as such cant change or write to system files. Surfing in general can't do much to your system but co...

Re: Trying to install a file ending in .tar.bz2 without success.

As the chmod command return to the prompt silently without any error message, the command has succeeded. You can verify by executing ls -l ~/Downloads/OmegaT_4.2.0_Beta_Linux_64/OmegaT.jar It should confirm that the "x" bit has been set on file ~/Downloads/OmegaT_4.2.0_Beta_Linux_64/OmegaT.jar . I'...

Re: Trying to install a file ending in .tar.bz2 without success.

Hi Mike-Linux-Mint, You are welcome... It would help to know more about your system setup like which edition and version of Linux Mint you are using. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " and " lsusb " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide e...

Re: Trying to install a file ending in .tar.bz2 without success.

Hi Mike-Linux-Mint, If I am not mistaken, this application requires that Java be installed. Linux Mint 19.x comes with Java 11 runtime installed, but a lot of applications will not work with Java 11 or newer. So, I recommend installing Java 8 and making that the default Java. A quick test opening t...

Re: setting up Virtualbox

Have you installed VMware Tools ? Yes, I did but I just had to reboot for the internet connection to work So everything's working great now. The great thing with VMware is that it's trouble free and worked right out of the box I'm just wondering though. Do you have to keep windows updated and go th...

And I'd like too since Virtualbox doesn't seem to be working even with secure boot disabled Problem is VMware really takes a long time to install, I still have the bundle window in the background trying to install but it's been an hour now and it's just at maybe 20% So I don't know, I think there m...

Re: Performance is being reduced !

I probably won't be able to give you the answer you're looking for to solve your problem but I had Mint (Tara) cinnamon installed until yesterday and for the last couple of days I found Mint to be extremely slow and didn't know the reason nor what I should be doing. In the end, I ended up installing...

Re: setting up Virtualbox

I got tired of dealing with virtualbox and ended up installing VMware Workstation Player (free for non-commercial use). It just seems to work better than virtualbox. Interesting. Have seen it mentioned, of course, but seems to have few fans on the Forum. OTOH, like you, I've gotten frustrated with ...

Re: setting up Virtualbox

Thanks guys. I disabled secure boot but got a new message about kernels not matched with my version of virtualbox. so I'm kind of working on it right now. I'll let you know if that works. If it doesn't I also thought of installing VMware as suggested by Majpooper. I actually downloaded the file and ...
