Re: Mint 18.3 won't boot after installing Manjaro

I think philotux is right, something may have happened to /dev/sda3 which was the /boot partition for LM

Did you by any chance used /dev/sda3 as the /boot partition for Manjaro, then changed your mind or something ?..

To repair, you could try chrooting into your LM partition and reinstall a kernel

Re: Blank spot?

Hi everyone, I think it's the update manager's icon, I happen to frequently have the same issue under LMDE 3 : https://framapic.org/2rrpAF9LvRb4/VIZ6KYGH4Kfb.png It goes like that after some time of staying idle, for a reason I can't pinpoint. After reading your previous answers to murray, I tried e...

Hi,

Can you post your detailed partition scheme ? Do you happen to share a /boot partition between LM and Manjaro ?

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

AAA titles such as Ghost Recon, Assassins Creed series, and such are not available, and it appears there are no plans to convert them. I disagree : https://www.protondb.com/search?q=assassin%27s%20creed https://www.protondb.com/search?q=grand%20theft%20auto https://www.protondb.com/search?q=the%20w...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

Open GL/VULKAN vs DX 11/12+ is not a contest at this point. I would love to have more and better VULKAN game titles, but the sad fact is game companies code for Direct X. I'm convinced that Steam is going to change that in favor of Linux. They already have done a lot of work in this direction, and ...

Re: Unmounting external storage freezes system

I am running LMDE Cindy with Cinnamon and from the moment I installed the OS (few weeks ago) I cannot safely remove any external storage devices (harddrive and USB). If I do this my system freezes, and I cannot do anything, my mouse also stop working, and music is stuck in a loop from that point. C...

Re: Apple's Bleeding in Sales...

This is a very interesting article. I don't know much about stock exchange, and I wonder about this : A publicly traded company that makes most of its money from selling phones is no longer telling investors how many phones it sells! Would this really be a suicide move ? As long as the money is ther...

I want to control just how much space timeshift can suck up.
To this end I created a mounted drive from a file set at 20GB.
Can you tell us more on that ? How did you do it ?

Re: Slow Cabled Ethernet Connection

I actually tried Windows 10 on one of my PCs, for something like 3 days. And I reverted back to Windows 7. The reason ? Automatic updates that you can't disable. WHY ?! Even Apple doesn't do that. They give annoying notifications, but they don't force you into it... (There are other reasons ...

You could try this :

Code: Select all

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
and see if it improves.

Re: Slow Cabled Ethernet Connection

And that's where the main problem appears. Caja won't accept any userID and password. No matter what you put in there, it gives you an 'incorrect ID/password' error and let's you try again. Endlessly. After a bit of research, it does not look unsolvable to me. If you ever want to give it a new try,...

I think you have to launch the installation for the package manager to ask you about installing the dependencies. I don't use the graphical software manager, but that's how it works in CLI.

Re: Minte-meta-mate desktop still showing in

Hi,

mint-meta-mate is only a metapackage that is used to install a bunch of other packages : https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/packages/ ... ta/1401551

I would try to remove ONLY what is called mate-* and after that, running $ sudo apt autoremove.

Here is some fresh info from a user on this very forum. Please don't harass him to come back to Mint, but his points are to be noted :

Re: Trouble restarting

Instead of the recovery mode, can't you access another (older) kernel version ?

If not, you will have to boot on a live CD or live USB to fix things. Here are some steps to try : https://askubuntu.com/questions/41930/k ... n-block0-0
