Video Editing SW for Older Laptop
I'm a rank noob wanting to learn videography and video editing, but can't invest in a new laptop. Current rig is a Lenovo X1 Carbon 4th (I think) gen with these specs . I know there are a ton of FOSS editors out there, but was wondering if anyone could recommended one specifically that will work mor...

Re: Thunderbird will not recognize Gmail password (or so it is claimed)
All that sound and fury, and all I needed to do was be on the latest release.
Problem solved. Thanks.

[SOLVED] Thunderbird will not recognize Gmail password (or so it is claimed)
This began months ago. I ended up giving up and moving over to Evolution, but really prefer Thunderbird. If I try to add my Gmail account to TB, the wizard a) finds my ISP settings as it should b) takes me over to Google's web page to grant TB permissions, as it should c) returns me to the wizard wi...

Re: Email client like Thunderbird?
I use Evolution and am quite happy with it. Fast, connects nicely to my Gmail calendar and contacts. Gets the job done.

Re: Restoring from Timeshift Following LM Re-Install
it is far easier and more efficient to use TeeJee's other backup package Aptik to do what you want. Thanks. I ended up going with Aptik. While I appreciate the advice I've received re Timeshift, some of it went beyond my current skill level. Once I've upped my game a bit, and if I feel the need, I'...

Re: Restoring from Timeshift Following LM Re-Install
Hmmm...I'm trying to restore with Timeshift and not having any luck rebooting after the restore. Oh man, this hole keeps getting deeper. OK, I lost very little personal data. My main reason to restore was to grab all the customizations I'd made to Cinnamon and installed apps. I can re-do that as a ...

Re: Restoring from Timeshift Following LM Re-Install
you're contradicting yourself. no need to install a fresh linux in order to restore it from a snapshot. i've done dozens of restores from timeshift and the only things you'll need to edit is /etc/fstab if you are restoring to a partition that has been deleted/formatted or newly created you need to ...

Restoring from Timeshift Following LM Re-Install
Questions: 1. When re-installing LM after a Timeshare backup to external SSD, is it necessary for the re-installed version's filesystem to match--or at least include--what existed when the system was backed up? 2. When using the installation "Something else" option for filesystem creation,...

Re: Timeshift on external drives
I just set up Timeshift to back up to an external SSD. On doing so, I noticed a message in the GUI to the effect that a) there is no fixed schedule for backups [because] b) the system runs a "maintenance" job every hour to create snapshots. My reading of the message is that the snapshots a...

Re: Timeshift and the Settings
The term "backup" should be used with caution. If the backup is to the same storage device, you lose the backup when the device fails. If the backup is in the same computer, you lose the backup when the computer fails. If the backup is in the same location... One of my customers had compu...

Re: Adding Google Drive Bookmark to File Manager Sidebar
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=232966 Thanks, but--maybe I'm missing something--I don't see my question answered in that thread. Unless you're saying that my solution is using Gnome's online accounts function to add access to Google Drive. I'd already tried that--and ditched it becaus...

[SOLVED] Adding Google Drive Bookmark to File Manager Sidebar
Running LM19/Cinnamon. Decided to download overGrive, which syncs to the cloud via a "local" folder called Google Drive. I want to add this folder as a file manager sidebar bookmark. I edited ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks to add this line at the bottom for the new bookmark. file:///home/pete...

[SOLVED] Odd Behavior in File Manager
So this is odd. Running LM 19 Cinnamon. If you view this screenshot of my home directory, you see that from the File Manager, with the sidebar view set to “Places”, there’s a small yellow exclamation mark on the icon for the Pictures folder in the sidebar. If you hover over the icon, it shows the pa...

Greetings!
Hey, everybody. I spent a fair amount of time wrestling with Ubuntu maybe 10 years ago. I found it frustrating, abandoned my efforts, and returned to Windows. But now, sick to death of the software behemoths and fearing for my privacy, I'm back. And I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying myself. Instal...
