Re: LM 19.3 Loses Ability to Detect Removable Media

Of interest here is that I cannot run gparted while the problem persists.

As with removable media problems, the gparted problem goes away upon reboot.

Re: LM 19.03 Loses Ability to Detect Removable Media

OK so lied or was misinformed.

There is the Removable Drives icon in the system tray at this very moment. It is not always there, however, when removable media is attached.

FWIW, here's how to record the audio that you can hear:

Re: LM 19.03 Loses Ability to Detect Removable Media

Hi,

Thx for the reply.

No. There is no removable stations icon in the system tray, ever. I have never seen this.

Bump.

Just bringing this back from the fall off the end of the page, bringing it back to the top of pile to give it one more go.

Re: LM 19.03 Loses Ability to Detect Removable Media

Bump.

This happens with pretty much any new device or media that can be attached to the live system. The system loses it ability to detect and mount anything.

A reboot fixes the problem immediately.

Re: A Peek Question - Audio Capture?

Sadly the answer to my question is no. Peek cannot capture system audio. It was not designed to do so. :( There is a wonderful review of the app here: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/04/27/a-look-at-peek-screen-recorder-for-gnu-linux/ The extremely positive review is quite detailed in its analysis of Pe...

A Peek Question - Audio Capture?

Hi,

I am wondering if Peek can capture system audio as well as video. I am having trouble with this.

Please, please do not go off looking for an answer on my behalf. I can do this myself.

But if you do know already, a reply would be appreciated.

Thx.

Re: Webcam not recognized

Hi, I don't see a cam in the list you posted above. In a terminal run the command: lsusb And report what it lists. If it doesn't specifically list something that you recognise as a cam, report everything. Try installing guvcview. Most cams will have some level of basic functionality in this program ...

OEM Whitebox Webcam - ID 0c45:6366 Microdia

Hi, I have been struggling with a normally cheap but now somewhat expensive (supply and demand driven inflation) OEM whitebox webcam. lsusb shows: ID 0c45:6366 Microdia Microdia-based product in general seems plagued with QC issues. Users report that when it works it usually works well. And when it ...

Good luck with getting these old webcams to work satisfactorily. Thanks for the reply. Sorry about my delay in acknowledging it. Busy. Reading between the lines, I assume your wish for my luck is ironic. "give up ... it's a pointless task" I was already coming to that conclusion. Thank you f...

General Web Cam Help

Hi, Under current global conditions (which I do not wish to discuss here), I have been trying to recycle and figure out how to get old web cams working for people. There is a shortage of new web cams where I live. The few cams that I have managed to find at the bottom of various drawers and boxes al...

LM 19.3 Loses Ability to Detect Removable Media

One peculiarity of my 19.3 installation that I have noticed is that some period of time after booting it loses it ability to detect and mount newly inserted removable media, especially USB keys. This does not happen all the time but frequently enough to be annoying. At start up everything is OK. Med...

Re: LM 19.3 Duplex not Working with Samsung ML-2955DW

Hmmm ..... Duplex works properly in LM 19.3 with a USB connection. I packed the printer over from from a remote location in my house and hooked it up with a USB cable, and it works just as it should. So the basic drivers work. No problem. There is a problem over Ethernet, however. The printer is nor...

I'm glad you risked it D Canard. Trying to find usable info on that card was near impossible, so I didn't risk offering advice. Enjoy your new card! :D Thanks. I am. :D And it came with a "pimp-your-rig" 5.25" front panel box, which I have installed - lots of knobs and jacks and an IR receptor for ...

Re: Soundblaster X-Fi SB0460 - Recommendations?

Well.... I rolled the dice and went and bought the card. It seems to function very well in LM 19.3 with no fuss, per se. And it sounds a lot better than the on board Realtek ALC 892 sound chipset. I have always had problems with the Reatek sound chipset in Linux Mint - noise when I move the mouse - ...

Soundblaster X-Fi SB0460 - Recommendations?

I am looking at an older Soundblaster X-Fi card on Craiglist, a model SB0460. Searching for information about the card and Linux, I find a lot of ancient horror stories about Creative's terrible Linux drivers, which they abandoned, and handed over to the open source community. I can't find a lot of ...

Rsync is the basis for many of the backup programmes on Linux. If you are happy with it then try Grsync.
Thanks. It has the same problem as a lot of the other GUI-interfaced solutions. I cannot find a way to select hidden folders in my profile.
