Re: Ran out of space on /boot partition...

>>>>>>t I guess most newbs aren't using something other than the default partitioning arrangement, so this would be a non issue. Thanks again! Well I've just enabled it, ( thanks also DPM), because it is an issue for me, as I don't have a big / partition, most of my space is in /home

Re: Print to PDF problem

yes interesting, I thought cups is mainly for printing to paper, and may not be used to print to file. But it was something you had to try. It would be good if we could compare the differences between mint and Lubuntu packages. Maybe it is the fonts, that does seem possible. But sorry, how to find w...

Re: Print to PDF problem

OK, this may be worth a try, Mr rocks may have a point. try installing. printer-driver-cups-pdf And in case it's a font issue, install all the fonts you can find. This is known as a shotgun approach, if it's to hard to find the exact cause, change everything you can think of and cross your fingers.

Just a thought from an amateur player, as I understand it, thunderbird looks for the profile in your home. Have you tried putting a link there to the new location?

Re: Battery indicator showing 15% fully charged(SOLVED)

No the battery was only 15% charged, but with 100% capacity. I think you'll find everything is normal.

Think of it like a container that slowly shrinks with age. As it gets older the amount of stuff you can put in it gets less, so it's "capacity" goes down.

Re: Battery indicator showing 15% fully charged

I'm not sure about this, but maybe the 100% isn't the charge, but the condition. In other words, it's a new battery so still has it's full capacity. with age that will drop off and the battery will no longer accept a "full" charge.

Re: Something is wrong with my partitions

As I understand it, you're allowed 4 primary partitions, after that you need an "extended" partition to house the extras. The size of the extended partition is the sum of the partitions in it. So for some reason you have an extended partition (sdb2), that you don't really need, with (sdb5)...

The thing I like about a separate /home partition is the ease of changing operating systems.

Re: No Battery Icon. Not Seen. Not Charging.

Shen, don't give up so quickly. All you need to know is how to open a terminal then copy and paste into and out of it. And ask if you have any problems, or don't quite understand an instruction. As this site says, there's no question too stupid, you can be guided every step of the way. But being a h...

Re: best linux distro

It certainly should, but you have a few alternatives, later versions may not work as well as earlier ones, and lighter desktop versions may be better than heavier. Cinnamon is the heaviest, Mate and XFCE lighter. The thing to do is make live usb/dvd media and run off them, I'd try the heaviest first...

Re: Remove foreign packages messed up install

James, I think the previous replies are on the money. You need your live media and some external storage. I assume you can boot with a live usb/dvd?? If so then you can use it to transfer your data to the external memory, then you can install LM20. Then recover your data from the external memory. Do...

Re: Upgrade LM 20 Mate to LM 20 Cinnamon

So I'm not sure of the exact details, but linux systems are modular. the desktop, is only ts desktop. so all mint flavours share a common base. the file system is the same, so all your data and home stuff are shared, problems can arise if the different desktops use different versions of the same sof...
