Re: Why does by default my text/pdf/docs always be saved in HOME ?

Not the answer you're looking for I expect. But I managed to get a firefox page saved to the desktop as a PDF.

Copied and pasted the text into Xournal and then exported to PDF, you can then save it where you like.

Re: Frustrations in calc

With Mate, under Preferences, there's a Mouse window where sensitivity and speed can be adjusted. I assume the other desktops have something similar

Re: Frustrations in calc

sounds more like a mouse problem to me. Especially if it's a problem in any app. Have you played with mouse settings? You can slow it down and decrease it's sensitivity, that may help. I've had a mouse that I couldn't get on with, no matter how I set it up. It's movements were very jerky, so I had n...

Anyway, and FWIW I have also dual booted right from day one over a decade ago without EVER an issue.
Yep, same here, from XP to windows 7. But there does appear to be problems with windows 10.

And I also agree it sounds more like a hardware issue to me

Re: multi-boot

I thought the op's bug was windows shutting down by itself, not an auto shut down feature not working.

Windows shutting down by itself, could be more of a hardware problem, if that's the case, any distro will have the same problem.

Re: How to downgrade to older kernel without Grub?

I don't know how boot camp works, but you may still have grub hidden away there and boot camp is just activating a "hidden" grub. Have a look at /etc/default/grub, and compare to mine below GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev...

Re: Weird Mint Mate Installation Problem 'help'

It looks like you will have to do without your essential programme. It is not listed in the Wine website, but if you are determined to try, ensure you have a Timeshift snapshot to fall back on. I'm not sure that nonlisting in the wine website means it won't work. If the program is started from the ...

Re: choose between Cinnamon and Mate

I haven't given cinnamon much time, but I don't get on with "modern" desktops. Being brought up on ancient Gnome, as you say simple straight forward, and you know where everything is. You can even find the program you want with out remembering it's name, or recognising an icon. It's what I...

In live session open gparted and see what it says about disk space, if it says there's only less than 10gb, then the installer is looking at your HDD

Re: How to play multiple MP3 tracks which differ in volume in the same volume ?

yep that would be it, all tracks are adjusted so that peak volume in the track is just below the maximum threshold. Not going to help a lot with tracks that have a large dynamic range, like some classical stuff, they can have super low levels in parts and very high levels in others. The quiet bits w...

well it's a problem in my case, because I'm not smart enough to know the fix. Mint 18 does boot but screen resolution is all wrong, and earlier versions don't boot at all.

Re: updating hard drive and mint

So I think you have been told wrong. A clean install on a new hard drive, should still allow you to boot into the old system, unless the old is a legacy boot and the new is a UEFI, that can cause problems. However, you can still mount the old system in the new one and have complete access to all files

Mozilla, if you refer to Firefox, bookmarks can be copied to file by Firefox itself.
If you leave .mozilla in your home, the new firefox will be exactly the same as the old one, it's more than just bookmarks, and saves the copying time.

I don't remember when Ubuntu dropped it, but Mint retained the root password until 18.2.
I don't think ubuntu ever had it, at least some of the very early versions didn't

Re: Strange behavior even when not using computer

yes capacitors are an essential part of power supplies, when they dry out they stop working, and instead of the nice smooth DC your machine needs it can become just a series of pulses. There's no way any digital signals can survive in that environment. But before it gets to that extreme level, you'l...
