Re: Software Manager doesn’t fully remove (Kdenlive, video editor)

OK, I haven’t found exactly the file to restore the Kdenlive GUI-settings, but have a workaround. In the user-specific settings, which remain after uninstall, there is a file “kdenliverc” in ~/.cache. When this file is missing at a new install, the app starts with the default GUI as it was never ins...

Hi,
Not sure if I understood your question, tried left mouse button holding down at the icon and drag the icon to the place you want?

Re: Software Manager doesn’t fully remove (Kdenlive, video editor)

Synaptic and Software Manager should default to the same removal method. OK, I assume the third method (Menu/ right click app/Uninstall) will do the same. With “safe” I mean the SW collection basically provided by Software Manager is approved to work with Mint, not damaging any Cinnamon Mint functi...

Re: Software Manager doesn’t fully remove (Kdenlive, video editor)

Thanks for your reply! As always, I’m not sure if I understood fully: Synaptic would know which packages are not used /referenced any more? Fantastic! Before removing Kdenlive there are only linux-headers and linux-modules auto removable, after removing Kdenlive there’s a lot more, also a “breeze-ic...

[SOLVED] Software Manager doesn’t fully remove (Kdenlive, video editor)

I’ve installed Kdenlive 4.2 using the SW Manager on Tessa. Didn’t like the bright interface and changed Settings/Theme to dark Breeze - but the GUI fell apart and is now unusable. OK. Both, “Remove” from SW Manager and Synaptic Package Manager seem to uninstall the app, but after a new install the i...

Re: Xfburn and audio - CD, how to stop it?

Because you added the same files again. xfburn should tell you which files, but oh, well. Yes, that was done deliberately, because I was annoyed with the still active “Add” button, something that should be found before beta. The repeating error messages … OK, thanks, I found the System Monitor - I ...

[SOLVED] Xfburn and audio - CD, how to stop it?

I still use CDs in rental cars, and Xfburn was recommended several times here as "simple", so I gave it a try, remastering an existing CD in new order. Silly me I opted for "Audio-CD" At adding the 116 audio *mp3s* from an (already mixed up) directory to Xfburn's composition it stopped at 99 ...

Re: Timeshift - SOLVED

... a one-syllable Tutorial on Timeshift ... No, sorry, that’s not possible. TS is a simple tool, but how to use it depends on your very personal situation / requirements. And this is where the mystery really starts: 1) What is your hardware (esp. where will you store your TS snapshots)? 2) What is...

Re: Time Shift troubles

Here are two snapshots. a Daily backup that I don't mess with, keep 5 copies ... and here is a Manual On Demand... nowhere near 14gB, it is 9.5gB with 18.3 Cinnamon Your first image (obviously taken from Nemo) is not a ss. It is a folder which contains 5 of your daily snapshot links. It reads: 5 it...

Re: Time Shift troubles

Really...are you sure about that ? Disclaimer: I’m a noob, take the following with a grain of salt: Yes, incremental, that is you have one big, complete (initial) snapshot, say system = 15GB and (home) data = e.g. 3GB, in total 18GB. After taking that ss you go for lunch. Now the first automaticall...

Re: Time Shift troubles

Timeshift seems to follow a similar concept. Regular back up intervals, that means you have to use a dedicated extra drive, not your primary and the root partition - this default is a fail in TS No it is not a fail. What is the point of a timeshift Sorry, seems I have confused you  *** I see ...

Re: Time Shift troubles

timeshift will restore your home-dir TO EXACTLY HOW IT WAS when ssnapahot was made. Great! :D But wait a moment: I’m coming from Apple’s Time Machine, which is designed for a desktop system. That thinking may be different from the average Linux user. And until now I’m a PC user only, not tinkering ...

Re: Time Shift troubles

I’m a bit confused by this thread. do NOT include your Home directory. that is NOT what Timeshift is made for, it is to provide backups for the OS, not your data. use a good data backup program LuckyBackup, BackInTime, etc.. That seems to be a bit harsh? Timeshift makes snapshots but no backup. A sn...

Re: How to recover wiped/deleted/lost files from external drive?

... I confess that although I have now made disk images and backups, I still have not found a single ideal and user-friendly program that runs backups in a way that is easily managed, selectively browsable, and doesn't take up vastly more space than the originals. But with Deja-dup, Timeshift, back...

Re: No Password Needed Nor Wanted (Solved)

Nice heated Win(Mac)-Tux discussion where both sides have good points but don’t seem to try to understand the other side. So let me add my brabel-babel: Using the same hardware / protocols, the same basic insecurity is built into all of them. And all of them are old, glad to do 'something'. Known an...

Never ever use the graphical shell as rooit! Becasuse tthe graphical shell is set as the user that has called root, not as root. These are 2 different users!.
Ah, um, thanks, I made a step but I’m not sure about the direction. ( :? )

Re: Open / edit text files as root in Nemo

That method will not cause any permission problems, as far as I'm aware. Thank you, glad to hear that! I’m shy of using the terminal and in my opinion even (MS)DOS was yesterday. - If there is a GUI we should use it. ALWAYS know why you're editing a file as root. Well, it’s always because I can’t d...
