Re: NTFS partition becomes Read Only

This partition DATA (sda5) is almost empty. Good! First I’d copy the data from that partition to be safe (a backup may “copy” the problem). If possible, NTFS issues should be repaired by Windows SW (chkdsk), Linux isn’t very good in that. If no Win available: GParted is able to detect and repair so...

Re: Foxclone v44 “Calculating Bitmap”

... does Foxclone not like fat32? No, FAT is OK. The issue I was thinking of is in partclone , a fossil basic tool of the Linux toolbox. I think each and every Linux partition backup SW has partclone in it's belly. With NTFS there’s a bug in partclone (used by both, Clonezilla and foxclone) that cr...

Re: Foxclone v44 “Calculating Bitmap”

“Calculating Bitmap” is output from partclone Ah, a message taken from partclone, which is also used in Clonezilla … Some (very old) reports suggest a connection to an error in a (Win) source file system, e.g. https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Help/thread/4e937914/ - @motoryzen, was t...

Re: Foxclone v44 “Calculating Bitmap”

I never had or heard of corrupting an image file, anyhow there is a “Verify” option in v44 with a log file. Andy fixed a bug in the nvme part from v42 to v44, it could be a collateral damage, was your image taken with v42? - But I guess it wouldn’t explain the hanging “calculating bitmap data”, esp....

Foxclone v44 “Calculating Bitmap”

. (I’ve started a new thread to avoid a hijacking of the other already hijacked one) @Chosneck: - To boot foxclone from even an old 4 GB (USB 2.0) pendrive would do, you can’t use the rest as your personal data storage at the moment, and speed isn't really a problem. -- No insult meant, but I would ...

Re: Clonezilla fails to copy system to the pendrive

@Chosneck: The problem is (speed) x (data transfer) == heat. A pendrive is limited in it’s heat dissipation, thus high speed and much data is bad. Even USB 3.0 allows quite a lot of speed (up to 625 MB/s), that’s high stress for a pendrive controller, very likely to throttle and finally to damage th...

Re: Clonezilla fails to copy system to the pendrive

I received that message when it was finishing - everything went smoothly and was at about 80% when i went to work. Great, thanks, but what was “it” ? Clone from drive to drive? Backup? Verify? Yes, that's what i was trying to do. Sorry, I still don’t get which of Andy’s options you’ve tried? :| - B...

no luck (i clicked abort cause i was scared about my system partition) scared - rrright 8) Um, Andy has recently improved foxclone from v42 to v44, I’ve seen similar messages. - Exactly when did you encounter that message? - Could you please try using foxclone v42 :?: I’d suggest: a) Take a full ba...

Re: "Check Filesystem" via "Disks"

I am trying to run "Check Filesystem" via Disks. From what I’ve seen the Disks’ (3.28.3) “Check Filesystem” is not recommendable, in particular it misses some NTFS probs (and won't repair them). I’d recommend GParted instead, though you may have to install first or use the Mint boot stick.

Re: foxclone issue

@Fizz:
I don’t know if I (n00b) could do it, but what about creating a USB boot stick of your liking (Mint?) and to install what Andy has under “foxclone42_amd64.deb” file at the download site?

Re: Is TimeShift like the Mac's Time Machine?

... (And TS heads to the trash.) Wait, TS is very helpful in case you have system issues after playing with installs, updates or Terminal. A TS restore usually is done in minutes, a re-install incl. SW takes hours. Just take snapshots manually and use a dedicated drive + partition, not your OS part...

Re: Is TimeShift like the Mac's Time Machine?

Oh, I forgot another warning:
TS per default writes snapshots into your system partition, a veeeery bad idea …
After same snapshots there’s no space left, you can’t log in any more!
Always take backups / snapshots to second drives, e.g. external USB (but 3.0 ! ).

Re: Is TimeShift like the Mac's Time Machine?

Hi, Mac user here. Nope, despite the name, TimeShift is neither Time Machine nor it’s little brother. Mac’s Time machine continuously keeps track of everything. TS is thought to take system (!) snapshots, best done manually before installing / changing SW. Although possible, TS is not recommended to...

Where can I find such fascinating parking lots?

What about the GParted - img of the sdc source?

Unfortunately this is a hijacked thread, now going on and on, probably should be separated to respect the OP’s question and topic? A better topic would be “Foxclone’s v42 drive to drive clone failed ? ” The question mark is what I’m interested in. @blueicetwice: From your “sudo parted - -list” I was...

I do have foxclone.org, but there is nothing there yet ... OK, foxclone.org doesn’t have a DNS entry, to be precise. Are you hitting a traffic limit at InMotion??? It seems only the download has issues, the download page was always there. What about linking the download from foxclone.com to hardwic...

Re: Another Clonezilla question

Seems the source drive was /dev/sdc with 500GB, msdos? The strange thing is: sdc1 is fat16 and boot , like a GPT/EFI boot partition? How was this drive partitioned, why was the fat16 boot partition created? Is that drive bootable? And GParted shows the crippled target partition (fat16) as “in use” (...
