Linux Mint 19 sudden graphics failure

Hey guys, wondering if a recent update could have caused my graphics drivers to fail. Used my pc to play a game late last night for a few hours and shutting down didn't work on first attempt. Today, I went to start it up again and the monitor wouldn't come out of standby. After a few reboots, and st...

Re: HDD LED Stays lit

I've just gotten around to checking the disk and it does report one bad sector. So it's possible that this is the cause of the HDD led staying lit? Are there any other causes I could check for? Is there any way to correct this without reformatting? If not then I guess I'll have to live with it until...

Re: HDD LED Stays lit

Hey thanks for the info guys! I'm gonna do some more checking on the drive. Linux seems to take a little longer to boot than Windows did also, could be related to the drive being bad?

Re: New Linux Mint 19 Install - Minecraft extreme stuttering (SOLVED)

@uberdorf, Thanks for your info, BTW I watched your video on YT several times now and I wouldn't have got Minecrfaft working without it so thank you very much! I just completed a reinstall of Linux Mint and this time I skipped the updates and went straight to the install of java 8 and used the termi...

New Linux Mint 19 Install - Minecraft extreme stuttering (SOLVED)

I have the proprietary drivers installed for my graphics card but for some reason Minecraft is stuttering. There are no mods installed whatsoever. I have tried many things incl. allocating more RAM and basically everything I could think of to correct this. Minecraft was playing fine before the new i...

Re: Help please with my minecraft.

You should only have "Minecraft Launcher" listed. Uninstall the other and you might have to open the "Files" folder and delete the ".minecraft" folder. Then reinstall Minecraft.deb. Please note; I am not a dev. I am just another Linux user and a new one at that. Just trying to lend a hand to a fello...

Re: Help please with my minecraft.

When you open the menu and go to the games menu, does it have "Minecraft Launcher" listed there or just "Minecraft"?

Re: Help please with my minecraft.

If you already have Java8 installed and you don't know how to set it as default, open the terminal and type

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default

hope this helps you

Re: Help please with my minecraft.

If you're using the launcher that is in the software manager by default, it doesn't work. The Minecraft.deb installer is what you want. You can download it from the Minecraft.net website. Save it to your downloads, make sure Oracle JDK8 is set to the default java version and then run the Minecraft.d...

Re: Help please with my minecraft.

Oracle JDK8 seems to be the only version that worked for me. You also need to set it as the default otherwise, Minecraft will use whichever version was there first. I have a couple of links I can send you for instruction if you want them.

Well said! I might miss Win 7 for some of the software that I've become accustomed to using but I have turned my back on MS for good.

Re: Minecraft was unfortunately the last straw :-(

I share your frustration. However, I do have it working on at least one of my machines. I've spent the past week trying to figure out why it works on one machine but on my gaming rig it is too choppy to play. I can't help but think that there must be an easy solution as when I initially did a test i...
