Re: Asus K51AC laptop hardware problems

Thanks Husse, Well, I've given up on the disc burning for now. I've moved on to the inverted webcam image. So for all of those unlucky people with this particular model: 064e:a116 Suyin Corp. You will have problems. Over at the Linux UVC drivers site, they say: "This camera module is known to be mou...

Asus K51AC laptop hardware problems

Hi all, I have recently bought an Asus K51AC laptop and just installed Mint 8... but have had a few problems with it. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same or maybe other problems. Below are the problems I have experienced. I would like to also note that I've tried the other top distros...

Re: E17 on Mint? [SOLVED]

There is a bit of "history" :? surrounding mint and enlightenment and there was a fork which became maryan Linux which is from South America but seems to use Arch as its base now. I've read about Maryan. Dunno. It just doesn't do it for me. Oh well. YO, CLEM! Think about it! Pretty please?

Re: E17 on Mint? [SOLVED]

Does anyone know if Mint will ever use Enlightenment? If it's as lightweight as people say it is, it's something I would really like to see. My machine is struggling with what little Compiz effects I have running. As for installing it on my own... well... I'm just a little scared of the actual insta...

Re: Nvidia control panel won't write to /etc/x11/xorg.conf

Thanks for the responses, guys. Muchly appreciated. Before reading all your responses, I had already made the file read/writeable. That works fine for me. I know it's a very Windows-user thing to do, but while I learning the ins and outs, this will do for now. :P

Thanks again!

Re: Nvidia control panel won't write to /etc/x11/xorg.conf

Thanks LitBolt. But will this give it permissions to always make changes or is it just for the one session? If it's just for the one session, then it would mean that I'll need to keep doing this every time I plug out and plug in my monitor. Would it be wise to just set the permissions of my xorg.con...

Nvidia control panel won't write to /etc/x11/xorg.conf

I use dual screens on my laptop. It seems the Nvidia display control won't write to /etc/x11/xorg.conf because it doesn't have the right permissions (which, I suppose, is a good thing). I want to give it permission to write to this file so that it can change my display setup every time I take my lap...

Re: Anti-Virus

What so many Windows converts call firewalls are actually GUI configuration and/or logging utilities. Not firewalls. Once the port rules are set with these utilities they don't need to run, unless you just want to have another program running in the background or want a prettier log generated than ...

Re: Help! Im so lost!

I just recently did this to my laptop over a few weekends. I reinstalled Vista... what... 5 times at least. That's because I didn't plan. I'm going to do it again this weekend. Only this time, I have a plan! :P So on top of that, have you seen this? http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_...

Re: Auto Mount Partitions on Boot

Question. Why doesn't Ubuntu/Mint auto mount drives anymore? Is there a reason why they took it out?

Also, hi! I'm new here. Also new to using Linux as a personal OS.

Re: Linux Mint 7 "Gloria" released!

I've always been a Windows user. I'm a noob at Linux, but I've always been curious. This is the first distro that has actually convinced me to install it. I played around with Felicia and was impressed... until my menu suddenly went berserk... but just in time for Gloria. Downloaded it, installed it...
