Re: Can't connect to the WiFi

I've just dumped this card in my laptop (LM Cinnamon 19.1)

It is, so far running perfectly (replaced a BCM4313 card that was using a propitiatory driver)

yeah - those work requirement(s) can be a real problem
I'm fortunate - Work gave me a laptop with Windows on it - I said I wanted to use Linux and their only stipulation was that any partition on which I stored sensitive data had to be encrypted.

Re: Some content Won't play in browser

I've tried this before, and once again just now and it didn't fix the issue on YouTube. It also caused Opera start page to crash, and crashed another web page which has an imbedded media player that I visit. This is Opera's fault and they don't seem capable or willing to fix the codec issue. Have a...

Re: Some content Won't play in browser

Last time I had this issue it was that Flash was blocked and Opera couldn't ship with a certain library (libffmpeg) that would decode the video. The way round it is it get the version of libffmpeg.so that chrome uses (you may need to install Chrome or Chromium) and copy the libffmpeg.so to /usr/lib/...

Migrating from Ubuntu

I've been an Ubuntu user for about 10 years and have finally decided to move to Mint having become disenfranchised with the regularity of Gnome Shell crashes. Been using Mint for the last week and I'm so impressed with the stability and ease of use - Cinnamon is just amazing! Looking forward to part...

except this time - Don't Use any Encryption - it's quite unnecessary.
Unless you wish to store sensitive data - Then it is quite necessary!

As I use my laptop for work; I have to have mine encrypted!

Are Realtek cards usable out of box or do they require some "tweaking" to get functional?
RTL8192e Is awful - Swapped that out from Broadcom BCM4313 (£4 from Ebay) - Works beautifully!

Re: Mint 19 - Acer Aspire ES1-331 can't find wifi connection

Looks like you've got the Broadcom BCM43142 card.

If you look under Menu>Administration>Drivers

is there an additional driver you can tick?

I've got the BCM4313 card and there is an additional driver that can be used which is rock steady.

Hope this helps,
