the addition of a Live DVD with Beryl (AIGLX) --had problems with XGL , GnomeBaker, and a few games (frozen bubble, ppracer, and tuxcart) would be awesome.

did you try?

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gsynaptics

This will add a launcher in your System --> Preferences menu which will allow you to configure your touchpad.

This one works for me, it's a huge improvement!

I just found this post and was having some difficulty. The recommendation to install qsynaptics and the link to the official Ubuntu forms post helped. However, I wound up installing gsynaptics and now it's working great!

I know about that folder, the thing is you can't browse to a folder when choosing an emblem. I guess my question is, where is the default directory where the emblems are stored?

isn't the default directory:

/usr/share/icons/<theme>/<size>/emblems

Where oh where did my emblems go?

Hey again guys, I was trying to change up a folder's emblem when I ran into a problem. There were only place holder icons as choices ("blank paper icons"). I don't know what I did but somehow the emblem choices are gone. Which folder are they kept in? I sure wish we could post attachments ...

ok, maybe I didn't see it this way before. The new mintMenu is meant to replace the default Gnome "Applications, Places, System" menu right? I see..

@carlos:

thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I'm also an aspiring web developer--all self taught. I'm no professional, just someone who likes to tinker around a little. I'm all about web standards XHTML 1.1 strict + CSS 2.0

I'm also a Linux noob!

Should we create a linuxMint "drawer" on panel?

just a suggestion, with all the new releases of Mint branded apps, can we create a LinuxMint "drawer" (i think it's called) in the panel and then add all subsequent mint apps inside there? We have desktop, wifi, 3d, space, config, disk, menu, and I'm sure many more to come scattered throug...

Way to go Carlos! I like the new logo(s) and webdesign. My favorite is the black "badge". They all look very professional and would definately be some eye candy as a spash/boot screen. I totally agree with the whole "branding" issue and think it would be wise to think long term. ...

I had this same issue and hated it. But, lucky enough, it was quite an easy fix! This issue will hopefully be address in the next version of mintDesktop (there will be a HowTO guide to help remove it)

I know that you gain root access by typing sudo the command but what are the advantages of doing so over, just plain su ...? does sudo just work for that particular command and then digress back to user access and the su keep root access until you close the terminal window? Or is it just the way a D...

I guess I have a similar question. By convention, in Linux, where do you typically install/unpack applications? Your /home/<username> folder? Or is it better to put them in /usr/share? I have to get used to this new filesystem. I don't think I'd like my home folder to be stuffed with 100s of apps an...
