catweazel,

Which NVidia drivers were you running when you tried Kernel 5.0? It looks like 430.14 was released just this past week. (https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers ... ubuntu/ppa)

Mint 19.1, thoughts on Kernel 5.0.0-15?

I'm currently running Kernel 5.15.0-50 (LTS) but see that Update Manager is offering Kernel 5.0.0-15 with support until February 2020. What with all of the recent security warnings and stuff ... does anyone have any thoughts, positive or negative, about moving to the v5 kernels? Thank you, pat----

Re: The Linux Command Line book

Received notice this morning that my 2nd edition book is on the way!

While I love the PDF, I also like to read in more comfortable positions and without a screen in front of my eyes. I know, heresy. :D

... To reduce clutter what about a simple KVM switch. Then all you would need is one keyboard, mouse and monitor for all your devices. I use this KM switch https://www.iogear.com/product/GUS432/ (both PCs are also plugged into different inputs on the monitor and I use the switch input button on the...

Re: Games with Steam Play

For CivIV maybe try putting this in the Steam launch options: PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% Alas, no change. I see the start of the startup video and the screen goes black. Once I hit ESC to end the intro video, the cursor appears and I can click around until I hit the QUIT button. A co-worker recomm...

thanks Pat, But please remember to mark your own thread as "SOLVED" As such, which\what method did solve your "problem" ? None of them yet. :) At least Automatic doesn't simply stack them all on top of one another, but i don't really like it. Works's been keeping me busy. maybe I'll have time to pl...

Am I correct in my understanding that apt is replacing apt-get? And if so, can *any* command I see listed for apt-get be replaced by the matching apt command?

programs not remembering their window position?

I've tried several searches and haven't found anyone mentioning the same issue, so i apologize if my search-fu is off today and I'm missing something. I'm wondering why some applications, not all, always start centered in the screen instead of where they were when I last closed them? For example I l...

Re: Games with Steam Play

For CivIV maybe try putting this in the Steam launch options: PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% Steam also enabled Steam Play for non-Steam games now btw, so you can even easily use Proton for those. Seems they're really pushing for the Linux market. Interesting. Thank you, I'll try the launch command to...

Hi, for Civilizations IV did you install the patch? Or Check that your computer has the right power for the game My system far surpasses the minimum requirements for the game (and it plays just fine on the Win10 side (dual boot)). I confirmed my linux config met or exceeded the Steam Play/Proton re...

Even though author mentions updating the first print edition starting that Summer (2012), I did n...

Dual boot - Sync *data* between environments?

While I'm playing around testing a Win10/Mint 19.1 dual boot on an old laptop, I'm designing and preparing to implement dual boot on my main desktop. The *long* term goal is to replace Win10 but I expect it'll take a while before I'm comfortable uninstalling Win10 (actually, I expect to end up needi...
